Jeremy Burns Wrestles For New England Wrestling Association Title

Springfield College freshman Jeremy Burns of Hoosick Falls who had lost a match early on in the New England Wrestling Association’s (NEWA) Conference tournament last weekend, came all the way back to wrestle for the individual title in the 184-pound weight classification before losing. Irish Stew Cook-Off

The Hoosick Falls Irish Festival will host its first ever Irish Stew Cook-Off on Saturday, March 13. Organizer Mary Bradley lived in Texas for a number of years and attended a number of chili cook-offs there. “They were a lot of fun, and I always thought of running something like that here.” For more information on entering the event and for contest rules, contact Mary Bradley at 518-686-5050 or email hoosickkid@gmail for an entry form.

Where Are Your Girl Scouts Cookies?

Did you really eat them all? Did you not order enough? Did your family want a certain kind you forgot to order? Do you need some for the freezer? No problem.
Girl Scout Troop #1144  will be selling cookies at Stewart’s in Hoosick (corner of Routes 22 and 7) on Friday, March 12, from 4 to 9 pm and Saturday, March 13, from 8 am to 12 pm. Cookies are $3.50 per box (cash only).

A.D.A.P.T. Dance

The North Hoosick Fire Department is sponsoring its annual A.D.A.P.T. Dance on Friday, March 5, at the Fire Station from 7 to 10:30 pm. This dance raises funds for the A.D.A.P.T. Committee, which sponsors the after prom event. Students ages 9 to 15 are invited to attend the dance.

Agnes Mary Powers

Hoosick – Agnes Mary (Knapp) Powers, 92, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at the Centers for Living & Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT, where she resided since 2001. She had formerly resided in East Hoosick, NY, with her husband Richard J. Powers Sr. Agnes and Richard were married on July 20, 1936, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington and were married for 57 years.

HACA Lenten Luncheon

Fighting For The Battlefield

On Friday, February 19, the ax fell on the NYS Bennington Battlefield Historic Site, 38 NYS State Parks and 10 other NYS Historic Sites when Governor Patterson announced their planned closings due to budget cuts. County Honors Arthur E. Gifford, Vietnam War Army Vet, Recipient Of Purple Heart And Silver Star Medals

The late Arthur E. Gifford, recipient of the Purple Heart and Silver Star Medals among other military awards and decorations for his honorable service to our nation as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and, lifelong resident of the Town of Hoosick, was recognized on Monday, February 8, 2010 by the Rensselaer County Honor-A-Deceased Veteran Committee as well as County, state and federal officials.
