Legislature Commends Berlin Young Farmer Award Winners

Two resolutions were passed at the Rensselaer County Legislative meeting on Tuesday night, January 12, relating to agriculture in Berlin and Petersburgh. The first commended Carl and Cynthia Greene for receiving the 2009 Young Farmer Achievement Award. The second carried forward from previous years the budget line for the Farmland Protection grants awarded by NY State for the Evergreen and Maple Lane Farms in Petersburgh and the Hooskip Farm, also in Petersburgh.

HAPPY And Hoosick Area Youth Center Merge

New Organization Formed To Serve Youth And Community
Two outstanding, youth-driven organizations serving the Hoosick Falls community have now become one. The Hoosick Youth & Community Center (Youth Center) and the Hoosick Area Partnership for Parents & Youth (HAPPY) have agreed to merge into one entity, the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3), effective immediately.

Learn To Skate!

Rensselaer County 2009 Year End 4-H Program Awards

In recent Recognition Events, year end awards were distributed to 4-H members in Rensselaer County.  These events were held at the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad and Tamarac School.   Clubs who met a challenging level of criteria were announced as “Honor Clubs” for 2009 and they are as follows:

Hoosick Changes Name Of Athletic Field

On Tuesday, December 29, the Town of Hoosick Board, as it was, met for the final time. Members in attendance were outgoing Town Supervisor Marilyn Douglas, outgoing Councilman Kevin O’Malley and Councilmen Bob Ryan and Mark Surdam. Outgoing Councilman Mark Cottrell was absent. One of the items voted on during the meeting was a name change to the Joseph Bruno Athletic Field or Town Park. The Board unanimously voted to rename the area the Coach Ken Baker Memorial Sports Complex.
