Ed O’Malley was a WW II Army veteran from Hoosick Falls. More than once he told people he wished veterans of his era had a bronze plaque in Wood Park like the WW I veterans have. It’s too late for Ed and many of his comrades to see such plaques. Age is catching up with the 16 million World War II veterans, and they are passing on at a rate of a thousand a day. Town Of Hoosick Rescue Squad Installs Officers For 2010

On Sunday, January 17, the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad held its annual installation dinner and awarded service certificates. Alan Bornt, 25 year Chief of the North Hoosick Fire Department, the Installation Officer, placed into office the following Squad Officers: President – Bill Gaillard, Vice President – Deb Lohnes, Secretary – Georgianna Parker, Accounts Receivable – Rose Ann Miller, Accounts Payable – Sue Eddy and Captain – Rita Kittel. Board members installed included Carol Hanselman and John May. To conserve funds the event was held in quarters for active members and catered by Jean’s Place.

The Johnsonville Rescue Squad, located at 4 River Road, Johnsonville, is having its monthly breakfast on February 7 from 7:30 to 11:30 am. Bowl For Hoosick Kids Raises Over $9,000
The Sixth Annual Bowl for Hoosick Kids raised over $9,000 for the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3) on Saturday, January 16. Thanks to the generosity of primary sponsors, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics and WCW, Inc., and the event host, Barbecue Recreation, the event was a tremendous success, according to organizers.

St. Pat’s Parade Fund-Raiser
The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Committee will hold a fund-raiser on Saturday, January 30, at The Polish Hall. The Band Squash will entertain from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Stop in and enjoy great music, snacks and raffles and support the 2010 Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival. A suggested donation of $5 will be taken at the door.
Lohnes Pleads Guilty To Horse Torture And Burglary

On Wednesday, January 13, Michael Lohnes, age 27, appeared in Rensselaer County Court and pled guilty to the full indictment against him. According to Assistant District Attorney Laura Krugler, the Judge told him straight up, there will be no promises. Sentencing will be February 4.
