New Lebanon Town Clerk Colleen Teal informs us that under NYS Highway Law, it is illegal to push snow into or across a town, county or state road when clearing your driveways and/or walkways and that violators are subject to penalty.  Please abide by this law and help our highway crews keep our roads clear for us during the winter.

New Lebanon Book Group To Discuss Parrot And Olivier In America

The New Lebanon Book Group will discuss Parrot and Olivier in America by Peter Carey on Sunday, February 6, at 11 am at the New Lebanon Library.
In this vivid and visceral work of historical fiction, two-time Booker Prize winner Peter Carey imagines the experiences of Alexis de Tocqueville, the great French political philosopher and author. Darrow School’s Coffeehouse Features Blues Musician

Stephentown ZBA Is Lead Agency On Motocross Park

Stephentown’s Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) has some new faces. At their Organizational Meeting last week the Town Board appointed Peter Ellard to fill a vacancy left by the resignation in November of Jack Liebenow. Ellard, a 12-year resident of Stephentown residing on Newton Road, is a professor of environmental ethics at Siena College where he is also Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Another vacancy occurred as a result of Robert Mittnight’s term expiring at the end of 2010. The Town Board chose Freling Smith to fill that seat. Smith, who has served on the Planning Board since January 2007, will be resigning from that position.

Darrow School Hosts Open House

Darrow School, an independent, college preparatory boarding and day school in New Lebanon, will host an Open House on Monday, January 17, from 10 am to 2:30 pm. The event includes a full information session, an in-depth discussion with faculty, lunch with students and faculty, a Q&A with current students and tours of Darrow’s historic Shaker campus.

Author Reading And Signing At The New Lebanon Library

On Thursday, January 27, at 7 pm, Columbia County author Rebecca McBride will read and sign her book, Traveling Between the Lines: Europe in 1938, at the New Lebanon Library. The reading will include a slide show of the book’s photographs and documents as well as several items from the trip. Following the discussion, McBride will sign copies of her book. Light refreshments will follow.
