The Hancock Historical Commission’s 21st Annual Gathering will recognize the Town’s Volunteer Fire Department and its current and former members.
Come meet the firemen, see pictures from the archives, hear some gripping stories and rekindle memories of times gone by as we acknowledge the ingenuity, determination and dedication of this devoted group of volunteers.
The program will take place November 14 at 2 pm at the Hancock Central School on Rt. 43 in Hancock. All are invited to attend this event which is open to the public.

Darrow School Hosts Empty Bowls Benefit
On Wednesday, November 17, at 6 pm, Darrow School will host Empty Bowls, a special community meal designed to bring awareness to world hunger. Proceeds from the event, which is also supported by the Mountain Road School in New Lebanon, with food by Brock Food Services, will benefit Charlie’s Pantry, a New Lebanon based food bank, and Oxfam America, one of the country’s largest nonprofits dedicated to creating lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and injustice. • Friday, November 5 – Birds For Books at 2 pm. Schuyler and Colby Gail from the Bar None Ranch discuss farming, chickens and locally produced food.
• Friday, November 5 – Coffeehouse Night at 6 pm will feature the music of singer/songwriter Linda Worster. Light refreshments will be served.
• Sunday, November 7 – the New Lebanon Book Group will meet at 11 am to discuss Both Ways is the Only Way I Want It by Maile Meloy. This book of short stories was chosen one of the 10 Best Books of 2009 by The New York Times Book Review.

Food For Fines At The New Lebanon Library
Put your library fines to work for the community. During the week of November 15-20, the New Lebanon Library will exchange food for fines. Fines for overdue materials (regardless of amount) will be cleared from your record at a rate of one fine for one food item donated. Only overdue items – not lost or damaged items – are eligible.

Community Drum Circle
Musician and educator Allen Livermore leads the a Community Drum Circle on Tuesday, November 9, at 7 pm at the New Lebanon Library. The free program, which offers participants the opportunity to play as part of drum circle, improvise and have fun, is open to all ages and all levels of prior experience. Participants can bring their own drums, shakers, cowbells and other percussion instruments or use ones provided by Livermore.

Tsatsawassa Fire Company Breakfast
The Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company will resume its monthly breakfast on Sunday, October 17, from 8 am to noon at the firehouse located on Firehouse Lane behind the post office near the intersection of Routes 20 and 66N in Brainard. Breakfast is scheduled to be served the third Sunday of each month through May and will consist of patron’s choice of pancakes or French toast, bacon or sausage, eggs prepared to order, toast, applesauce, orange juice and beverage.
