New Lebanon And Stephentown Assess Flood Damage

A River Runs Through it - Friday, July 31, after the flood there was still a sizeable stream running at the intersection of Routes 43 and 22 in Stephentown.  The building on the corner, the ‘adult’ shop of some years ago, had its basement walls broken down by the rushing water Wednesday and a veritable river was running through it. (David Flint photo)

The state of emergency in Stephentown ended Monday evening but was extended for an indefinite period in New Lebanon. As of Wednesday this week the towns were still trying to assess the extent of the damage caused by last week’s flood.

The NLCS Alumni Annual Reunion Is Well Attended Thanks To The Generosity Of One Man

Richard Burns, New Lebanon Central High School Class of 1949, was dismayed a few years back at the low turnouts for the annual Alumni Reunion Dinners. In 2005 he said that of all those who had graduated over the years only 57 showed up for the Reunion. “You could hear an echo in the room,” he said. Something had to be done. Postal patrons have enjoyed Melissa and Steve’s helpfulness, good cheer and yes, Bob Dylan’s music, for many years.
