High snow banks have added to the already difficult problem of driving onto Route 7 from the Route 22 junction near the new bridge. Highway Superintendent Bill Shiland and Town of Hoosick Board members discussed the issue at the Monday, February 14, Board meeting. They said the intersection has become very dangerous as cars have to creep out into the middle of the road to see oncoming traffic. This added to the concerns the Town already has expressed to the State regarding the intersection.

Town Of Hoosick Rescue Squad Recognition Dinner

The Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad held its 54th Annual Recognition Dinner on February 6 at Theresa’s Restaurant in Hoosick.
Special plaques were awarded to Tanya Brock for five years service, Georgianna Parker for 10 years and Ronald Sampath for 15 years. Special recognition was given to Jerry McAuliffe (the mailman) and his son Jerry. They were made honorary members as they provide a special service to the Squad. Grafton Town Board Action – Questions For Town Government

The Grafton Town Board meeting on February 10 was rather short as there was not a lot of Town business to transact, but it was well attended, and there was quite a bit of comment from the public.
Sandy Hasbrouck gave the highway report, describing the Highway Department’s travails in the very snowy weather of the past month.

Hoosick Grange News
Hoosick Grange had a nice surprise on February 9. We got our new movie screen. The men got right busy and hung it up. We also got a new Bingo game so we can see the letters better. We decided we would keep our next meeting on February 23, for a business meeting, if the weather is good.

Fund Raiser For Correctional Officer Ron Jacques And Family
Two weeks ago, Correctional Officer Ron Jacques and his family suffered a devastating fire at their home in Hoosick Falls. They lost their home and nearly all of their possessions including several beloved family pets.
Sheriff Mahar, his deputies, staff and Ron’s fellow correctional officers will be holding a fund raiser to assist Ron and his family during this very difficult time on Sunday, February 20, from 1 to 5 pm at the Italian Community Center, 1450 5th Ave., Troy. A donation of $25 per individual or $40 per couple is requested.

Teen Dance
Volunteers Kristy and Steve Lemiska have organized an awesome dance for our community teens. We will be holding a Starry Night-themed Teen Dance on Saturday, February 19, from 7 to 9 pm. It will be a fun filled night for teens to get a chance to hang-out with their friends and dance, dance, dance to enjoyable music. All teens are welcome to attend. Admission will be $3 per teen, and this will include snacks and beverages.

Berlin Library Plant Sale
Want to bring a little bit of Spring into your home? Buy an oxalis (shamrock) plant from the Berlin Library. Fill out a form at the Library from February 17 to 26. The plants have white flowers, but you can chose your leaf color of red or green. A 4 inch pot costs $5, and a 6 inch pot costs $9. Plants will be ready for pick-up on March 5. Add a dash of color to your home and support your local Library and its programs.
(Mostly) Takeout Chili Supper At The Stephentown Memorial Library
Homemade vegetarian and beef chili will be available for takeout at the Stephentown Memorial Library on February 24, from 4 to 7 pm. Dinners cost $7 and include chili, cornbread, coleslaw, a brownie and a beverage. Chili will also be available for sale for $9 per quart. We have limited seating available for those wishing to eat at the Library.
Annual Meeting
The Library’s Annual Meeting will begin at 7 pm, so come, have dinner and stay to hear what your Library has accomplished in the past year and all the exciting plans for 2011.
Petersburgh Library News
The Petersburgh Public Library is having an afternoon/evening Wii program for kids aged 10 to 16.
On Wednesday, February 23, during winter break, the Library will have a Wii system set up, from 4 to 7 pm with lots of fun games to play. Snacks will be provided. Bring your kids for hours of fun. For more information, call the Petersburgh Public Library at 658-2927 during business hours.
