Pot Luck And A Penny Whistle

The Stephentown Historical Society will hold its holiday potluck dinner on Monday, December 6, at 6:30 pm at the Stephentown Heritage Center, Garfield Road (County Route 26), Stephentown.  Officers and Board Members will be elected at the brief business meeting.  After the meeting the history and music of the penny whistle will be presented by Marilee Urbanczyk.

Closed For Thanksgiving
SML will be closed on Thursday, November 25, and Friday, November 26, in observance of Thanksgiving. We will be open Saturday, November 27, as usual to meet your needs.  We wish you a warm and happy holiday.
Family Movie Night
Bring the kids and come on Friday, November 26, at 7 pm for a showing of Ramona and Beezus. The adventures of young Ramona Quimby and her big sister Beezus come to life in this film based on the best selling books by Beverly Cleary. Ramona’s vivid imagination, boundless energy and accident prone antics keep everyone she meets on their toes, but her irrepressible sense of fun, adventure and mischief come in handy when she puts her mind to helping save her family’s home. This movie is rated G. Popcorn and juice will be provided.
Pet Food For Fines
Do you owe fines to the Stephentown Memorial Library? Use them to feed local pets in need. Pet food (dry or canned) will be accepted in lieu of fines the week of November 29 through December 4. Fines for overdue materials (regardless of amount) will be cleared from your record at the rate of one fine per one non-perishable, unexpired, unopened pet food donation. Only overdue items – not lost or damaged items – are eligible. All food donations will be forwarded to the Stephentown Food Pantry for distribution to needy pets in Stephentown. So clear your conscience of all those overdue books and benefit your community at the same time!

Gingerbread Competition At The Cheney Library

In this free gingerbread competition you may have a building from a favorite picture book or you may want to build a representation of a building in the Hoosick Falls area. Competitors are welcome to design unique buildings.

New Lebanon Library December Events

All of these events are free and will take place at the Library, which is located at 550 State Route 20.
• Tuesday, November 30 – Poetry Group – 6 pm. Poets and aspiring poets are invited to come and share their work.
• Wednesdays, December 1, 8, 15, 22 and 28 – Tales for Tots Story Hour – 11 am. Story hour includes crafts, songs and movement activities.
• Thursdays, December 2, 9, 16 and 23 – Hug-A-Bye Babies – noon, age appropriate stories, songs and movement activities for our youngest patrons and their parents.

Grafton Library Book Sale And VHS Give-Away Day

The Grafton Community Library will hold a book sale on Saturday, November 27, from 9 am until 1 pm in the basement. Movies in the VHS format that have been withdrawn from the collection will be given away. Items for sale include hardcover books, music CDs and DVDs for one dollar. Paperback and audio books cost fifty cents. You never know what you’ll find. Stock up now for your winter reading and gift giving.

Petersburgh Library News

The Petersburgh Public Library Story Hour will be held Tuesdays at 10 am on November 30, December 7 and December 14.  There will be no Story Hour on December 21 or 28 but they will resume on January 4.
Book Group
The Book Discussion Group will meet on Tuesday, December 14, at 7:30 pm.  The book being discussed is The European Dream – How Europe’s Vision of the Future is Quietly Eclipsing the American Dream.  Copies of the book are available at the Library.  Visitors and new members are always invited to attend.

Spanish Language Fun At The Grafton Library

The Grafton Community Library will be sponsoring a new monthly program for school age children and their families entitled “Spanish Language Fun for Families.” The program will be held on the first Friday of each month at 6:30 pm beginning on December 3. The program will be led by Grafton resident Angela Jimenez, a native of Bogota, Colombia.  Basic vocabulary will be taught through the use of interactive activities and music.

Stephentown Book Group To read About War And The Post Office

The Stephentown Library Book Discussion Group will read The Postmistress by Sarah Blake for its meeting on Thursday, December 2.
In 1940, radio gal Frankie Bard, reporting on the Blitz from London, wants to bring the war home to Americans and urge them to action. The other half of the tale features some of Frankie’s listeners – Iris, the postmaster in a small Cape Cod town, and Emma Fitch, the bride of the young local doctor. Lives cross paths when Dr. Fitch volunteers to work at a London hospital. Both small town American life and war ravaged Europe are vividly brought to the reader.
