To Buy Or Not To Buy; Berliners Face An Important Choice

On Monday, July 19, Berliners will go to the polls to vote on whether to authorize the Berlin Town Board to use up to $495,500 of the Capital Reserve Fund to purchase the Berlin Lumber property in Cherry Plain for use as a municipal center. In a similar referendum last December 14, Berliners rejected the Berlin Lumber purchase by a 210 to 131 vote. At that time the purchase price was $569,000. The price reduction of $73,5000, which would finance the lion’s share of the renovations needed at the site, prompted a petition with 106 signatures calling for another referendum which was presented to the Board at the May Town Board meeting.

Hoosick Town Board Action – Dangerous Intersection In Hoosick

At the regular meeting of the Hoosick Town Board on Tuesday, July 12, Board members advised townspeople to be extremely careful at the intersection of Routes 7 and 22 as construction on the new bridge, and now the roadway, continues. Councilman Mark Surdam started the conversation and other members chimed in as they all related dangerous incidents that have already occurred. They said it is very difficult traveling from Route 22 onto Route 7 to see around the metal guardrails before making a turn. Stephentown ZBA Approves Motocross

Following meetings in May and June at which public comments were heard, most of them negative, regarding a proposed Motocross field in the southern end of the town, the Stephentown Zoning Board of Appeals moved quickly at their meeting on July 1 to grant the requested zoning variance. Joseph Champion, presiding in deference from the regular Chair, Jack Liebenow, who had been absent from the previous meetings, made clear at the start that there would be no public comments heard at this meeting.
