Tree Planting In The Rain

On Saturday afternoon, May 8, a group of hearty volunteers planted over 200 trees around the perimeter of the new Rensselaer Land Trust Hoosic River Fishing and Boating Access Site on Route 67. The launch area is 1.4 miles east of Buskirk, just past Beck Road or one half mile west of Eagle Bridge on Route 67. The tree planting workday was done in partnership with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Though many public officials were invited to the event, none chose to participate in the rainy weather.

A Spring Wildflowers Walk

A leisurely walk on “Spring Wildflowers: Identification and Folklore” will be held at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Sunday, May 16, beginning at 10 am. The walk will focus on identification and folklore of spring flowers and plants. The event is free and pre-registration is encouraged, but not required. For more information, please call the Center at 658-2055.

May Events At GLSP And Cherry Plain State Park

Parking fees apply on weekends of $6 per car through May 23 and $8 per car once swimming opens on Memorial Day weekend at GLSP. CP fees will be $6 per car on weekends until July, when swimming opens.
Saturday, May 15 – Star Watch at Grafton Lakes State Park at 8:30 pm. Join with members of the Albany Area  Astronomers and come explore the night sky. Meet at the main parking lot. Call 658-9144 to confirm.

Petersburgh – Hilda Susan Moon (Sisk) Allen died in her sleep on May 6, 2010, shortly after her 92nd birthday. The daughter of John H. Moon and Lena (Babcock) Moon, she was born in Petersburgh, NY, where her family had lived since 1784. Christian Concert A Big Hit

On May 3 the Taconic Valley got a rare treat in the form of a Christian rock concert in the auditorium of the Berlin Central High School. Kiros and Seventh Day Slumber rocked the roof for the community courtsey of Courier Printing, Brookside Bed and Breakfast, the staff and faculity of the Berlin Central School District and the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church. Not only were there the two bands, there was a set up to help underprivileged children. And, according to Sherry Bowman-Kluck, $1,000 will be given at the next School Board meeting to the Berlin Music Program, $100 to the Drama Club and $100 to the School Catering Crew from the concert’s profits.
