July Twilight Paddles At The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center

The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center is offering Twilight Paddles in July on the 12th and 15th from 7 to 9 pm. The July 15 twilight paddle will be held during a full moon. Paddles are limited to 15 people and pre-registration is required. Boats can be rented for $10. Please call 518-658-2055 or email us at dykenpond@fairpoint.net to register or find out more information. A complete list of programs can be found at www.dykenpond.org.

The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center, located at 475 Dyken Pond Road, Cropseyville, is a Rensselaer County Park open daily during daylight hours for hiking, fishing and non-motor boating. Canoes and kayaks are available for rent each day from 9 am until 3 pm.

WCW Building In Hoosick Falls To Go On Market

The closing on the final piece of property connected to the WCW property on Mechanic Street took place on Thursday, June 19. According to Rensselaer County Attorney Stephen A. Pechenik, the County has owned the building for more than a year, having accepted the deed in lieu of foreclosure. “However,” said Pechenik, “the County didn’t own the loading dock or the parking lots.” The County prepared to take that remaining piece of property by Eminent Domain. Berlin’s Seagroatt’s To Be Bought For Use In Aquaponics Project

A non-profit organization called Clearwater Aquaponics is buying the Seagroatt property in Berlin for the purpose of raising fish and vegetables in a symbiotic system known as aquaponics.

The Executive Director of the organization, Joanne Willard, has lived in Berlin for two years. She and Clearwater’s Director of Strategic Development, Malcolm Ashley, held a public meeting on June 16 at the United Methodist Church in Berlin to tell local people about the project and answer any questions.

Town Of Hoosick Pool Repairs To Be Rebid

A special meeting was held by the Hoosick Town Board on Monday, June 23, to review the one bid received for pool repairs. According to the minutes of that meeting, Supervisor Mark Surdam, Deputy Supervisor Jeff Wysocki and Councilman Bruce Patire were in attendance. Councilman Dave Sutton was absent.

218 Years Of Stephentown History Comes To An End

The Stephentown Baptist Church, now known as the Church at the Crossroads, will be closing its doors next week. The Church is being dissolved and the remaining congregation will disperse to other churches in the area, thus ending 218 years of ministry in Stephentown.

Grafton Planning Board Action – Business Galore

Joyce Brewer Honored As PTA Founders’ Day Award Winner

Jr. Girl Scouts Receive Bronze Award

On Monday evening, June 23, seventeen members of Jr. Girl Scout Troop 1259 received Bronze Awards, the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn. To achieve this award the girls had to “demonstrate a commitment to helping others, to improving their community and to identify a need in the community. Once the need was determined they had to develop a plan to meet that need and then put the plan in motion.”

Town Of Hoosick Summer Camp Opens Next Week
