New Lebanon Town Board Action – Noise Ordinance Discussed

January 17, 2014 By eastwickpress

A Big Noise

by Thaddeus Flint

For the New Lebanon Town Board, 2014 could be a noisy year –  when it comes to noise.

At the first monthly meeting of the Board on Tuesday, Board members were once again asked to look over a proposed noise ordinance for the Town. The matter has been brought up before, but the Board has changed now. Councilmen K.B. Chittenden and Doug Clark have been replaced by Councilmen Dan Evans and Chuck Geraldi, and so the matter didn’t get very far.

Hoosick Town Board Action – Town Pool Becomes A Priority

January 17, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

During the January 13 meeting of the Hoosick Town Board Supervisor Mark Surdam suggested the public be given an opportunity to inspect the condition of the Town pool on Saturday, January 18, from 10 am to noon. “This will be an adults only visit as there is no water in the pool,” he added. He further suggested that a Special Town Board Meeting be held on Thursday, January 23, at 6:30 pm, in the Armory, specifically to discuss the pool. The Board approved the two events. For several months repairs to the Pool have been a topic of discussion at Board meetings. The Laberge company has done a preliminary study to repair and upgrade the pool to meet the latest ADA and State standards at an estimated cost of $793,000.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Action – Snow Emergency Parking Regulations To Be Enforced

January 17, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

At the January 14 Village Board meeting Trustee Bob Ryan brought up the issue of street snow removal. He pointed out that there has been a law on the books since 1989 regarding odd/even street parking in emergency snow conditions. However, it hasn’t been enforced in recent years. He said it isn’t fair to residents, particularly in the fourth and second wards, that they have only one lane of traffic open on their streets because of snow packed around parked cars. And, he added, it would be very difficult for emergency vehicles to make it through many of the streets should they be needed. January 17, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Kieron Kramer

In an extremely brief meeting, the Rensselaer County Legislature passed only three resolutions that directly related to eastern Rensselaer County. They began the meeting by honoring Wesley Edwards for his 50 years as Town Justice in Stephentown. They also approved a contract with the Agricultural Stewardship Association which manages Rensselaer County’s Farmland Protection Program in which a number of local farms are involved. And it re-appointed David Huskie of Petersburgh to the County Health Board for a term to expire December 31, 2019.

Berlin Town Board Action – The Missing Report

January 17, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Kieron Kramer

An oddity at the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, January 9, was that there was no Code Enforcement Officer report even though Allan Yerton was present at the meeting and even though the report appeared on the agenda as usual. No mention was made of it. About 40 minutes later Allan Yerton was re-appointed Code Enforcement Officer by the Board after a thirty minute executive session which Yerton attended. Until this appointment after the executive session there was, technically, no Code Enforcement Officer in Berlin and hence no report. [Read more…] about Berlin Town Board Action – The Missing Report
