Berlin Youth 2 Youth Members Go To Eastern States Conference

The nine teens pictured above are just a few of the members of Youth 2 Youth Berlin, a group which single handedly raised $4,825 to send these members to the Youth to Youth Eastern States Conference this past July. Summer Of The Owl Concludes With A Raptor Expert And Live Owls

Trish Marki, a trained wildlife rehabilitator and educator with the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York will be joining the Hoosick Falls Summer of the Owl Ceremony and Celebration.

TVSC Now Accepting Applications
The Taconic Valley Soccer Club is now accepting applications for the Fall Season for grades k-6. Registration forms can be found at any of our local libraries or on the Soccer Club’s website at www.taconicvalletsoccer.com. We are also looking for parents interested in coaching teams this season. The Stephentown Beautification Committee

Stephentown’s Town Hall is looking a lot nicer thanks to a group of public spirited citizens. Burt Swersey, who is closing out his Shadowbrook Nursery, made it known some weeks ago that he was ready to donate hundreds of plants, shrubs and trees to beautify the village central area of the Town. He also was willing to lend his expertise in getting them planted properly and to help with organizing and assisting volunteers to maintain them. The Town Board endorsed the idea and formed a volunteer Beautification Committee, stipulating that maintenance and care would be the responsibility of the Committee.

Hoosick Grange News
It was fun night at the Grange on August 14. We had great food and plenty of it. We played Bingo until we filled the cards. We had lots of prizes and played until all were gone. We had a great turnout and even got a new member. It was a very successful fun night.
Our next meeting is August 28. It’s election of officers night. The Lecturer is in charge of the program. Louise Ciuk and Mary Ramancus are in charge of refreshments.

Book Discussion Group
The public is invited to the monthly book discussion group on Tuesday, September 10, at 7:30 pm. The book Genius of Place, the Life of Frederick Law Olmsted will be discussed. Olmsted was a visionary landscape architect of the nineteenth century. Copies of the book are available at the Library if anyone would like to read the book.
Summer Reading Program Ends
The summer reading program has drawn to a close. Children who would like to win a battleship game or a doll are invited to put a raffle entry into our can for each book they read for the rest of the summer. The drawing to see who wins will be on Wednesday, September 4, at 4 pm.
This summer 47 children and teens completed the reading requirements reading a total of 430 books (younger children) and 34,320 pages (older children and teens). The Library sponsored 26 programs with a total attendance of 632. The adult participation was good with 11 gift baskets donated by board members and community members and 257 books read and entered into the prize drawings. Our thanks to all who donated and participated.
Story Hour Resumes
Petersburgh Public Library Story Hour will resume on Tuesday, September 10, at 11 am. All pre-schoolers and their caregivers are invited to join us for stories, activities, crafts and snacks. Story hour will be held each week through Tuesday, December 10, as long as school is in session.
David Grover And Linda Worster Together
Local favorites David Grover and Linda Worster will be performing together at the New Lebanon Library on Friday, August 23, from 6 to 8 pm. All are welcome, and the event is free
David Grover has earned countless awards including a Grammy nomination and Artist of the Year. He spent many years as Arlo Guthrie’s lead guitar and band leader. Grover and his Big Bear Band have performed at the White House, opened the Goodwill Games, appeared on The Today Show, performed with the Detroit Symphony for their Youth Series and played for the delegates of the United Nations.
Linda Worster has toured as a solo musician throughout New England, New York and New Jersey. She has opened for many well-known artists including Livingston Taylor, Harry Chapin, Paul Stookey, Leo Kotke, David Bromberg, Bill Staines, Dave Mallett, Jonathan Edwards, Joan Baez, Richie Havens and Taj Mahal.
