HooRWA Turkey Trot
On Saturday, November 24, at 10 am there will be a Turkey Trot, or Take-a-Walk, on the Hoosic River Greenway in Hoosick Falls for young, for old, for families, for everyone! Walk off that Thanksgiving dinner and explore the Hoosic River Greenway, including its newly resurfaced southern section, and the nearby Hoosic River. Meet at the old Water Works off Carey Avenue in Hoosick Falls at 10 am. Really wet weather will cancel the event. This event is sponsored by the Hoosic River Watershed Association and the Village of Hoosick Falls.

Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman’s whimsical Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway play You Can’t Take It With You opens at Hubbard Hall on Friday, November 9, and runs weekends through November 25. Jeannine Haas directs this tour de force and is the same director who brought you last season’s smash hit Amadeus!

The Benoits Celebrate 30 Years At Cornerstone Fellowship Church

Pastor Mike and Lois Benoit celebrated their 30th anniversary at Cornerstone Fellowship Church in North Hoosick on October 30. At this point they can’t imagine being anywhere else. They were married in Cornerstone Church in 1975 by Lois’ father Rev. Philip Garippa. He was pastor there for 15 years. Hoosick/Petersburgh – Mr. Karl Christensen, 83, a resident of Whitney Lane, Wilmington, VT, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 3, 2012. Born in Hoosick, NY, on December 27, 1928, Karl was the son of Amdi and Edna (Eagle) Christensen. He attended Hoosick Falls Schools.

Train Derailed In Hoosick

The silence through the Hoosick and Hoosick Falls area late Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday night and Wednesday morning into afternoon was deafening. Not a train rumble or whistle was heard. It was scarier than Halloween. The cause of the silence was a 14 car derailment not far from the Hoosick Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant at about four o’clock Tuesday. Stephentown Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt reported on Tuesday that according to a NYSEG official Stephentown was near the top of the list in Rensselaer County for power outages. Much of that was caused by trees down on Staples Road that brought down power lines and cracked a pole by the Historical Society’s Heritage Center.
