Clark R. Wilkinson, President of Paragon Civil Engineering, P.C. addressed the Town of Hoosick Planning Board again Monday evening, June 18, regarding the 8,000 square foot Family Dollar Store planned for 2.15 acres on the Northwest corner of the former Baker’s Nursery property. Wilkinson brought to the meeting site plan drawings and other information that had been requested by the Board at its May meeting. Petersburgh Town Board Action – Town To Enforce Building Codes

Petersburgh Town Supervisor Siegfried Krahforst said the Town needs to take some action to enforce the building codes in Town. He said it’s been three years since the first letter went out to all property owners in town warning them that building permits are required, but he said the Town is aware of buildings being put up without permits. He said the Town will begin to prosecute any unpermitted building construction begun after the first letter was sent out, which was about three years ago, in 2009. Stephentown Town Board Action – Public Hearing On Taking Over The Stephentown Elementary School Property Is July 9

A public hearing will be held on Monday, July 9 at 7 pm on whether the Town should accept the offer from the Berlin School District to transfer ownership of the Stephentown Elementary School property for $1. Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt said at the Town Board meeting on Monday that a notice had been received from the District’s lawyer indicating that they would like a decision by June 30. There is no way that will happen, Eckhardt said, because the Town Board wants to hear what residents have to say about it and they may want to put the matter up as a referendum in the general election in November.

Grafton Planning Board Action – Shooting Range

The Grafton Planning Board met on June 18 with only one item on the agenda, the site plan application by Les McDermott for a shooting range and gun store on his property at 303 Old Siek Road. The main purpose of the facility is to provide training by certified instructors to retired police officers who, by federal law under The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 (HR218), may carry concealed  weapons if they re-qualify yearly. Eleanor Fairbanks Celebrates Her 100th Birthday

Eleanor Fairbanks thought she was just going to Sue and Mike Matatt’s home on Sunday, June 17, for cake to celebrate her 100th birthday. Instead she found herself guest of honor at a huge party that included her children, grandchildren, family, friends, presentations from Rensselaer County Legislator Stan Brownell and Hoosick Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly and a bagpipe serenade by Kathy Buck. It was fire prevention night at Hoosick Grange on June 13. Marion Hynick introduced Hoosick’s Fire Chief, William Rifenburgh. He told us he has been Chief for 14 years. He said their Department is 40 members strong. They cover one-third of the County. He said he works in Albany in Fire Prevention and Patrol. Stephentown Historical Society To Hold 31st Strawberry Festival

Strawberry shortcake will star at the Thirty-first Annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 24, under the tent at The Berry Patch on Route 22 in Stephentown. This fund-raiser for the Stephentown Historical Society runs from 11 am to 4 pm or until supplies run out.  Locally grown, freshly picked strawberries will be served on biscuits or sponge cake with whipped cream or with ice cream for sundaes.  Strawberry-rhubarb pie à la mode and  whole strawberry-rhubarb pies will also be sold.
