Stephentown – Richard W. Jones, 80, of Route 22, Stephentown, NY, died on Tuesday evening, May 8, 2012, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, after a long illness.
Born April 26, 1932, in Needham, MA, he was the son of the late Amos W. and Ruth D. Colburn Jones. He was the loving husband of the former Glena Kemp, whom he married on May 1, 1953, in San Antonio, TX.

Tree Planting At The Eagle Bridge Boat Launch

Several members of the Rensselaer Land Trust, plus the Tamarac High School Biology Club, DEC and other volunteers, planted 300 trees and shrubs last Saturday, May 5, at the Hoosic River Boat Launch in Eagle Bridge. The plants were donated by the DEC nursery in Saratoga.

Spring Wildflower Walk At Dyken Pond

A walk on “Spring Wildflowers and Forest Plants: Identification and Folklore” will be held at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Saturday, May 19, from 10 am until noon. The leisurely walk will focus on the identification and folklore of spring flowers and other forest plants. The event is free and pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Capital District Friday Field Group Outings

The Capital District Friday Field Group, formed in 1993, is a mix of amateur and professional naturalists that meets weekly on Fridays at 5:30 pm between April and September to explore the natural features of sites in the Capital Region.  The trips are free, and the public is welcome.  Upcoming Trips:
May 11 – spring wildflowers in a rich hardwood forest at Pittstown State Forest
May 18 – marsh and swamp at Tamarac Wetlands in Brunswick

Rensselaer Land Trust May Outings

The public is invited to attend.
On Saturday, May 12, from 1 to 4 pm, bring the family to Papscanee Island Nature Preserve to experience the thrill of catching fish with a seine, or dragnet, and discover what lives under the surface of the Hudson River. Petersburgh Fire Department Installation

The Petersburgh Fire Department held its 2012 Installation Dinner on Saturday, April 28. A fine dinner was provided by caterer Melanie Teliska, and music was provided by D.J. John McEnerny. Fire Department Chaplain Walt Knightes provided a brief Invocation before the meal and a Benediction after.

Play Ball! The Youth Baseball And Softball Season Opens In Hoosick

Two hundred and fifty-one boys and girls and their families gathered in Wood Park Saturday morning, April 28, for the start of the Town of Hoosick Youth Baseball/Softball season. The youngsters, ages four to twelve, were decked out in their new uniforms. Many wore warm jackets as the weather was cooler than it had been in March. [Read more…] about Play Ball! Bly Hollow Beer Diviner

A brewery on Bly Hollow Road in Cherry Plain? Seems unlikely. The unlikely brewer, however, is Dr. Jonathan Post, and he’s not just a brewer but a Beer Diviner. Post has indeed recently opened his Bly Hollow Brewery for business and is now selling his products at local stores, including the Cherry Plain Pantry.
