Grafton Supervisor Proposes Cut In Property Taxes For 2012

At a special Town Board meeting held on October 3, 2011, Town Supervisor Tyler Sawyer introduced to the Town Board Grafton’s 2012 Tentative Operating Budget. The tentative budget calls for the overall property tax decrease of 1.5% in the General Fund and slightly less than 1% for the Highway Fund. If adopted, it would mark the tenth straight budget that Sawyer has produced that reduced or held property taxes for Grafton property owners.

Letter To The Editor – Dirty Politics In New Lebanon?
Dear Editor,
I am writing first, to thank your paper and Thaddeus Flint for the well written article concerning the dismissal of our Deputy Town Supervisor in New Lebanon.
Secondly, I am writing because I hope for the residents of New Lebanon to see via your article the seriousness of what the former Deputy Supervisor, Candidate Mike Benson and LVBA [Lebanon Valley Business Association] Chair, Fiona Lally, actually DID!
This attempted “coup” against our incumbent Supervisor was the ultimate example of dirty politics. The weak excuses of those involved were just that, weak excuses. The goal was to undermine our present Supervisor, win Hannaford back to Town and give the glory to candidate Benson, which in turn would have won him more votes.

Lucas Klein Completes Ph.D. In Psychology

Lucas A. Klein completed his Ph.D. magna cum laude from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, San Diego, CA. In August, 2011, he successfully defended his dissertation on assessment psychometrics, which was entitled “The Relationship between Interpersonal Capacity Data on the Personality Assessment Inventory, the Rorschach, and the Quality of Object Relations Scale: A Validity Study.” Lucas was awarded his doctoral degree on September 12, 2011. His pre-doctoral field training included work with chronic mental illness, college counseling, adolescent psychotherapy, private practice psychodynamic therapy and neurocognitive/personality assessment. Grafton FD Breakfast
The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary, will be holding an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, October 29, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85). Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy and biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu.
The cost is $8 per adult, $4 for kids 12 and under and free for kids 5 and under. We look forward to serving you!

Turkey Vultures Are Gentle

According to the Turkey Vulture Society (vulturesociety.homestead.com) the Turkey Vulture is a gentle and non-aggressive bird that has often gotten a bad rap. They generally do not kill anything, do not spread disease and will not hurt your pets or children. They roost in large community groups but forage independently during the day. They easily and gracefully soar on thermal updrafts and have both a keen eyesight and a highly developed sense of smell.

Alexander Schmigel
Hoosick Falls – Alexander Schmigel, 88, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at his residence on Center Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. He had resided there with his grandson Louis Schmigel and Michele Hayner. He was the husband of the late Regina (La Magdeleine) Schmigel who died in 1996.
