Another Flywheel Failure At The Beacon Plant In Stephentown

The boom caused no damage, but it did shake people’s houses and caused considerable consternation in the neighborhood. Apparently another flywheel at the Beacon Power frequency regulation plant on Grange Hall Road disintegrated last Thursday night, October 13, between 9 and 9:30 pm. A previous such incident occurred on July 27. This time Sam and Marcia Sowycz who live directly across the road said they had just arrived home when they heard a loud boom and, “It felt like the whole house shook and shuddered.” They then met some neighbors out on the road who reported that their houses shook also and one of them said he smelled smoke. At that point the Sowycz’s called 911.

Saunders Resigns From The Berlin Town Board

There were only four Berlin Town Board Members at the Town Board meeting on Thursday, October 13. Jim Saunders was not present because he had resigned from the Board at the Workshop meeting held in late September. He had appeared at the workshop, handed over his letter of resignation before the meeting started and left, according to Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger. Saunders had served on the Board since being elected in 2005 and still had two years to serve on his present term. No reason for Saunders’ resignation was given. After announcing the news at Thursday’s meeting Jaeger said, “We thank James for his time and effort to be on the Board; not everyone always agrees, but it is a big commitment to be on the Board.”

Grafton Planning Board Action – Lake At Sylvan Way Development Finalized

On April 21, 2009, after years of negotiations resulting in many conditions and covenants, the Grafton Planning Board approved with contingencies the development by Stonybrook LLC at Dyken Pond known as the Lake at Sylvan Way. The approval was contingent on Stonybrook, the real estate development company owned by David Lipinski, meeting 13 conditions and agreeing to 26 protective covenants. Because the contingencies have now been met, the Grafton Planning Board, on October 17, 2011, passed a resolution, more than two years later, finalizing the approval of the 2009 subdivision application.

Petersburgh Town Board Action – Irene Causes Cash Flow Shortage In Petersburgh

Petersburgh Supervisor Peter Schaaphok said the Town has a cash flow problem because of the extraordinary expenses of repairing roads damaged by Hurricane Irene. He said highway bills to be approved for payment at this month’s Board meeting totaled $128,000 but there are only $111,000 of highway funds on hand.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – October 2011

The subdivision of a 224.45-acre parcel in Eagle Bridge was approved by the Hoosick Planning Board Tuesday.
The new parcel is located off Route 67. Totaling about 154 acres, it will be sold to the Ziehm family for agricultural use.
Last month the subdivision was proposed by George Holbrook, attorney for Greta Daun, owner of the property. Planners, at that time, had concerns about access to the land.

Hoosick Grange News – Music Night

It was music night and bring can goods night at Grange on October 12; we had two boxes plus other goods. The Lecturer introduced Janet Hurd, a music teacher. Janet teaches at Forrest Ward Memorial School in North Bennington. Janet is a one-lady band and can play any instrument. Janet introduced all of her instruments she had with her.
