Pittstown Historical Society Receives Fourth Grant

On Friday, June 24, Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino joined Hudson River Valley Greenway acting Executive Director Mark Castiglione and members of the Pittstown Historical Society at the Herb Backus farm on Johnsonville Road in Pittstown where he presented an enlarged check for an $8,000 grant to the Society. Rensselaer Land Trust Hoosic River Paddle Trip

Rensselaer Land Trust invites the public to paddle the Hoosic River on Saturday, July 9.  Bring your kayak or canoe and join us as we paddle eight miles of the Hoosic River. We’ll put in at the new NYSDEC public boat launch on the Rensselaer Land Trust’s property in Eagle Bridge and take out downstream just before the Johnsonville Dam. The Hoosic River boat launch is approximately 1 mile west of Eagle Bridge on the north side of Route 67.

Grafton Lakes State Park Off-Road Triathlons

Sky High Adventures and Grafton Lakes State Park announce that Off-Road Triathlons will be held at Grafton Lakes State Park the weekend of July 16 and 17.  The Sky High Kids Off-Road Triathlon, a USA Triathlon sanctioned youth event, will take place on Saturday, July 16, with a 9  am start time.  The Sky High Off-Road Triathlon at Grafton Lakes, a Nissan Xterra Points Series Race, will take place on Sunday, July 17, with an 8 am start time.

Trail Day In Grafton Needs Volunteers

Come to the woods and spend an afternoon on Sunday, July 17, at 1 pm clearing trails from storm tree damage. One of the privately owned conservation easement properties of the Rensselaer Land Trust has public trails that need work to make them safe and pleasant again. The property is adjacent to the Dyken Pond Environmental Center, which is where we will meet. Wear long pants, sturdy solid shoes and work gloves. Be prepared to help lift fallen trees. Bring water and a snack and clippers and hand saws if you have them. Call or email Christine to register at 518-859-4363 or Christine@renstrust.org.

Hoosick – Jessie L. Stevens, 93, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center in Hoosick Falls, NY. She had resided on South Street in Hoosick, NY, with her daughter Norma Stevens. Jessie was the wife of the late Carl “Shorty” Stevens, who died in 1999.
