David Borge Appointed To Hoosick Falls Village Board

At the regular meeting of the Hoosick Falls Village Board on Tuesday evening, June 14, Trustee Michael Hickey announced his resignation from the Board. He has recently purchased a home on Albany Street which is located two houses outside the Village line. Mayor Matt Monahan thanked him for his contribution to the Board over the years. His chair was still warm when David Borge was sworn in to replace him. The Mayor noted it would be a short tenure, from June until next March when Hickey’s term expires.

Grafton Town Board Action June 2011 – New Siding For The Post Office

Grafton Supervisor Tyler Sawyer said the Town has had problems keeping the Post Office painted. The old school house which houses the post office is owned by the Town and produces revenue through the post office rental. It’s a charming and attractive building but has some kind of moisture problem which makes the paint peel off it. Restoring The Denison Burial Ground

David Kirsimagi has taken on the ambitious project of restoring the Denison burial ground in North Stephentown. David, 15, a Stephentown resident and sophomore at LaSalle Institute, is a Life Scout in Nassau Troop #166 working toward the rank of Eagle Scout. Last fall he proposed for his Eagle Scout service project, “To the best of my ability to restore the Denison Cemetery located on East Road in Stephentown, NY, including removal of unwanted brush and trees, photographing  and logging individual gravestones, acquiring and erecting an appropriate sign.”

TV Icon Ed Dague At Hoosick Area Senior Center

For more than an hour on Thursday, June 9, former television news anchorman Ed Dague shared his experience as a television icon with the crowd at the Hoosick Senior Center. Town Of Hoosick Lions Club Celebrates 50th Anniversary

On Saturday evening, June 4, the Town of Hoosick Lions Club celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a dinner dance at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. Members from the Albany/Troy, Watervliet, Amsterdam and Scotia/Glenville, NY Clubs, plus the Bennington, Norshaft (Norwich/Shaftsbury), Vermont Clubs, joined the celebration.

Hoosick Girl Scout Honor Ceremony

On Sunday, June 12, Hoosick Girl Scouts their families, and their leaders gathered together for their year end Honor Ceremony at Hoosac School. The program began with a procession of scouts lead by the youngest Daisies (kindergartners) and a presentation of flags by one of the Ambassador troops (a sophomore and four juniors) and with remarks from Service Unit Manager Joyce Brewer. Hoosick Grange had an open meeting on Wednesday, June 8. Business was taken care of, then we had the program with Marion Cipperly in charge. She told us that one of her favorite magazines was Country Women. Then she showed a picture of a wash on the line floating in the breeze. She always liked to hang her wash out. Apple Tree Girl At The Taconic Valley Historical Society

In celebration of the planting of the Town’s gladioli beds, the silent movie, Apple Tree Girl, will be shown by the Taconic Valley Historical Society at its monthly meeting on Monday, June 20, at 7:30 pm at the United Methodist Church on South Main Street in Berlin. The movie, released in 1917, contains scenes filmed in Berlin showing Arthur Cowee’s gladioli fields.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Following the movie, refreshments will be served. Please join us for this special evening.
