Local Civil War Veteran Gets His Stone

Noble Myers and Roxanna Cummings gave birth to their third of five children on April 12, 1827, in Pownal, Bennington County, Vermont, whom they named Charles Henry Myers. On January 5, 1850, Reverend Elder Tinkham, a Baptist minister, married Charles to Mary Ann Varnum, daughter of Rensselaer Varnum and Eliza A. LeBarron, in the minister’s home in North White Creek, Washington County, New York. This marriage was a surprise to Mary Ann’s parents, as the couple never told them that they were getting married until shortly afterwards on that day. Volunteers Needed For Food Pantry

The Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA) Food Pantry, located at 26 John Street in Hoosick Falls is in need of volunteers. A volunteer is needed the third Wednesday evening of the month for stocking shelves, registering clients and filling grocery bags. Adapt Planning For After-Prom Celebration

ADAPT (Alcohol Drug Abuse Prevention Team), a committee responsible for planning and hosting a safe, substance-free after-prom celebration for the high school juniors and their guests, is underway with its planning sessions. The committee is looking for HFCS Class of 2012 parents/guardians to join in the planning sessions and fund raising efforts for this event.
The committee began meeting in late January and will have regular meetings every other Tuesday in the HFCS Elementary School library from 6:30 to 8 pm. The next meeting will be held on March 1.

To the Editor:
Why is it that the Berlin School Board and the Eastwick Press, although being most aggressive in communicating to the public about relatively peripheral Berlin School District issues like lead paint and the periodic Kabuki dance over the school budget votes, why is it that they utterly fail to communicate with the voters about the one issue that vastly more significantly affects the taxes we pay, namely the impending contract negotiations with the Berlin Teachers Association?

Hoosick Baseball & Softball Registration

The Town of Hoosick Baseball & Softball will register players at the Hoosick Area Youth Center,  115 Church Street, Hoosick Falls, on Saturday, February 26, from 10 am to 2 pm. Girls and boys ages 4 to 12 can sign up for baseball or softball for opening day April 23. Great news is that the registration fee is lower. The cost is $50 for a single player, $80 for two players and $5 for each additional player. You do not have to live in the township to sign up. Any questions, please call Beth Cipperly 518-686-5450.
