The Hoosick Falls School Board held a workshop meeting September 27 to consider elements of a possible capital project. A presentation was offered by architects from the firm of Clark Patterson Lee. Their firm did a “building condition survey” for the District about a year ago, an evaluation required by the State Education Department every five years. They have built on the findings in that report to put together a proposed capital project. This initial presentation includes everything that the District might like to get done, with the idea that the District will prioritize and choose which projects to move forward with as they learn more about building needs and costs.

Letter To The Editor – The BCS Petition
To The Editor:
There seems to be some misconceptions about the petition that was presented to the Berlin Central School Board at their September meeting. First of all, the Board members were not aware of the petition prior to the fact. A group of concerned citizens started it on their own. Also, [Board Member] John Nash didn’t want to listen to public comment until after they voted on the bond. He was very strong on his opinion. There was a compromise, and the public was allowed to speak just prior to the vote.

Panthers Outrun Black Horses

Last Friday, the visiting Panthers took on the Schuylerville Black Horses on the Horses’ home field. The Panthers flew out of the gate, taking a 20 – 0 first quarter lead. A 24 yard pass from quarterback Billy Pine to Randy Tutunjian along with two Brad Burns running plays (17 and 67 yards) gave the Panthers all the points they would need to bring home the victory. The HF Varsity Girls Soccer team outscored Greenwich 7-2 last Tuesday night. Goals were racked up by Grace Delurey, 1, Alice Hayden, 1, Liz Babson, 2, Allie Martin, 1, Mackenzie Hinchliffe, 1, and Casie Mann, 1. Assists to those goals were Grace Delurey, 2, Alice Hayden, 1, Mackenzie Hinchliffe, 2, and Rachel Pine, 1. The Lady Panthers had 12 corner kicks. Hannah Fricke had 6 saves in the net. Hoosick Falls Commended Students In The 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program
Hoosick Falls Jr./Sr. High School Principal, Stacy Vadney, announced recently that Katherine Danforth and Jason Woods have been named Commended Students in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, was presented by the Principal to these scholastically talented students.

On Tuesday the Berlin Boys Varsity Soccer team defeated Doane Stuart 2 to 0 at home on goals from Jacob Mills and Cody Seel. Jackson Burhans and Zach Spaniol each had an assist. Sakan Sadowsky, Reid Rascoe, Cullen O’Brien, John Schatz and Chris Price played well defensively. Mike Reger recorded his fifth shutout of the season

Berlin HS Pizza Night
On Friday, October 12, the Spanish club will be hosting a Pizza Night. Just like last year when the Class of 2012 held Pizza Night you can order pizzas online up until 2:30 on Friday afternoon or starting at 2:30 pm you can call the high school to place an order. The Fall Fest Is Coming, The Fall Fest Is Coming
The 20th Annual Fall Fest will be held on Saturday, October 13, at the Berlin Middle/High School from 10 am until 3 pm.
Classes and clubs will sell food, crafts and have games available. Some of the highlights of the day will be the sophomore class’ Haunted House, the senior class chicken barbecue and the craft and flea market vendors.
