Berlin Town Board Action – It’s Official – Carl Greene Resigns From The Berlin Town Board

Deputy Supervisor and Board Member Carl Greene made his resignation from those positions official at the Town Board meeting on Thursday, December 9. His resignation is effective December 31 of this year. As is typical of Greene, who is modest, thoughtful and conscientious, he submitted a lengthy letter of resignation thanking his colleagues on the Board, Town Clerk Anne Maxon and the department heads, in particular Ivan Wager and his crew at the Transfer Station and Highway Superintendent Jim Winn and his crew. Rensselaer County Legislature – Layoffs Put Jimino And Unions At Loggerheads

There was plenty of media at the Rensselaer County Legislature’s regular meeting on Tuesday evening. Television cameras and reporters from all the Albany networks as well as photographers and reporters from area print media crowded onto the floor of the Chamber, and the gallery was packed with spectators. They were all there to hear public comments from several union leaders in response to the Rensselaer County Executive’s laying off of 27 public service employees.

Hoosick Town Board Action – Allard Replaces Folgert On The Planning Board

At the monthly Board meeting on Monday evening, December 13, Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly asked the Board to appoint Kevin Allard to the Planning Board to replace Carol Folgert whose seven year term expires the end of the year. Councilman Ryan asked the Supervisor if he had asked Folgert if she wanted to stay on the Board. The Supervisor replied he had not. Ryan was confused, he said. “If she is doing a good job, why does she have to be replaced,” he asked. He said he felt the Board currently had a good variety of representation. Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Public Hearing On New Water Rate Set

At the regular Hoosick Falls Board meeting on Tuesday, December 14, Mayor Matt Monahan announced that a Public Hearing on the Village’s new water rates will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, January 11. The Hearing will be followed by the regular Board meeting. He said the rates will be available for review at the Village Clerk’s Office starting January 3, 2011.
Letters will be sent to the 40 households that still do not have water meters and to the 65 households that have installed meters that are not working correctly. If meters aren’t installed or working by January 15, property owners will be fined until they meet Village requirements. A Growing Celebration

Now in the hands of HAYC3, the tree lighting in Hoosick Falls continues to grow. Shops stayed open Friday evening, December 10. A small crowd gathered at 5 pm to see the tree lighted in Wood Park. From there folks wandered over to the Youth Center for a pancake supper. The parade through the Village to honor the community’s volunteer fire fighters began at six with decorated fire trucks from White Creek, North Hoosick, Hoosick and Hoosick Falls. Santa Claus (who bore a strong resemblance to Lester Goodermote) rode in the lead truck. [Read more…] about A Growing Celebration

Berlin Middle High School Addresses Reaction To Former Student’s Death

“Berlin Middle High School experienced tension among students today following the news of the death of a former student,” stated Cathie Allain, Berlin High School’s Principal.
Allain also noted that to avoid possible conflicts, the Middle High School administration kept students in class until they were escorted to buses to go home. Law enforcement was called to ensure an orderly dismissal. The Holiday Concert scheduled for tonight was postponed until December 22, at 7 pm.

BCS Boys Soccer Players Recognized

Three boys varsity soccer players from Berlin High School attended the Section II Soccer Awards Dinner at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga on Sunday, December 12.
Awards were given to goal keeper Phil Bruns for CHVL Second Team Allstar and Section II All Region Class C Team. Phil was also nominated as Class C Goal Keeper of the Year.
Sakan Sadowsky was selected CHVL First Team Allstar, and Tucker Connally was selected to the CHVL Second Team.

Hoosick Falls Central School Bowlers Win Two More

The Hoosick Falls bowling team won a close match against Schuylerville on Thursday, December 9, by the score of 3 to 1. All three games were very close as Hoosick Falls had the higher pin total of 3,429 to Schuylerville 3,366. Hoosick Falls is now 15-1 and Schuylerville is 12-4. Top bowler for Schuylerville was Matt Seymour with a 236-667. Top bowlers for Hoosick Falls were Chris Pelletier 235-651, Joe Wolfrum 225-596, Bryan Callahan 241-582, James Lynch 192-568 and Cody LaFlamme 197-537.

Hoosick Falls Community Band To Celebrate The Christmas Season With Its 28th Concert

The Hoosick Falls Community Band under the baton of Bill Gaillard will carry on a tradition begun by Pastor Robert Sprunger (d) in 1982. He was a clarinet player in the band and thought it would be nice to have a concert in his church.
The 2010 concert will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evening, December 22, at 7:30 pm. All are cordially invited to attend this program which will feature traditional selections and four new ones that will cause a chuckle in many.

Seventh Annual Hoosick Bowl For Kids

The Seventh Annual Hoosick Bowl for Kids is set for Saturday, January 15, at Barbecue Recreation on Route 22 in Hoosick. Proceeds benefit the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3) and programs for youth and families.
