It was a pretty sparse turnout, 53 voters, especially compared with last week’s vote on purchasing the Berlin Lumber property in which 323 people voted, but those residents of Berlin Fire District #1 who did come out on Tuesday voted two to one to approve the purchase of a new fire truck and a new ambulance. The tally was 35 in favor and 18 opposed.
The vote authorizes the purchase of an ambulance and a tanker-pumper, the total cost of which is estimated to be $398,000. District reserve funds up to $39,880 can be used toward the purchase with the rest being financed either by issuance of a serial bond or by an installment purchase contract.

Berlin Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger said after last week’s referendum that he believed another party might have beaten the Town to the punch and made an offer to buy the Berlin Lumber property but that he had seen no evidence of a sale pending. New Lebanon Town Hall Project Moves Forward

Although the Town Hall referendum failed, Town Officials are far from giving up on the project. On Monday, July 26, members of the Town Council and Town Hall Committee held a public informational meeting at the New Lebanon Firehouse. The meeting served as a question-and-answer forum where community members had the opportunity to express their concerns about the project.

Generous Grad Treats NLCS Alumni To Dinner

New Lebanon Central School alumni filled the Stephentown Fire Hall on Saturday, July 17. It was the 2010 NLCS Alumni Dinner, sponsored and paid for once again by Richard Burns, Class of ’49. The generous Mr. Burns, who now resides in Shelton, CT, has picked up the tab now for the fifth straight year, and the turnout each year has, not surprisingly, been great.

Dollar Deals Opens

St. Mary’s Academy Class Of 1960 Reunion
The Saint Mary’s Academy class of 1960 held its 50th reunion on July 10. The event was held at the Stirrup Square banquet room in Pittstown.
