Upcoming Programs At Dyken Pond

Junior Naturalist Programs for Kids
There are two more programs for kids in the Junior Naturalist Series at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. Thursday, August 19, will feature Terrific Trees while Thursday, August 26, will be a Nature Hike. Bennington Battlefield Visitors’ Center To Commemorate 233rd Battle Anniversary

The Visitors’ Center at the Bennington Battlefield NYS Historic Site will be open on Sunday, August 15, from 1 to 4 pm, to mark the 233rd Anniversary of the Battle of Bennington. On Monday, August 16, at 6 pm, the American Legion of Hoosick Falls and other community members will hold a short ceremony commemorating the actual Battle Day on the top of the hill.

Stephentown – Sandra K. Hamer passed away peacefully in the home that she loved in Stephentown, NY, on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Born in Columbus, OH, Sandy graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1960 and then moved to Cleveland, OH, where she held public relations positions at Diamond Shamrock, Mt. Sinai Hospital and two television stations.

Timmerman Funeral Services

Services for Glen Timmerman will be held on Saturday, August 7, at 3:30 pm at the Island Hill Cemetery in Buskirk, NY. Glen passed away in California and was the son of Peter and Doris Timmerman of Buskirk. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.

Fly-Tying At HVCC

Once again Homewaters Trout Unlimited Chapter #586 is sponsoring a class at Hudson Valley Community College for the Fall semester. The course is called Fly-Tying: Learn-2-Tie. Course participants will learn basic entomology, the identification of aquatic and terrestrial insects and their life cycles. Students will apply that knowledge, along with basic and advanced fly-tying techniques, to create life like insect patterns for fly-fishing.

6th Hoosic River Ride To Be Held August 21

On Saturday, August 21, rain or shine, at Southern Vermont College in Bennington, the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA) and Heliocentrix will present the Sixth Hoosic River Ride, a benefit cycling event that seeks to raise awareness about the river and its recreational attributes while raising funds to support the education, research and advocacy programs of HooRWA.

Grafton Lakes State Park August Events

Sunday, August 8 – 25th Annual Run for the Roses 5k benefitting the Grafton Community Library. The race is at 9 am, the nature walk at 8 am and the kids One Mile Fun Run at 10 am. Call the Grafton Library at 279-0580 for information.
Thursday, August 12 – 8:30 pm. Watch a meteor shower at Grafton Lakes State Park. See the Perseid meteor shower through telescopes. The rain date is for the regular Star Watch on August 14.

Petersburgh Planning Board Rebuffed In Star Ridge Way Ruling

Petersburgh Town Justice Paul Montgomery has issued his ruling in the Planning Board’s suit against Joan and Michael Buzerak concerning the road at the Star Ridge subdivision. The Town had alleged that the road in this subdivision is an illegal sixth lot in an approved 5-lot subdivision, that it was not built to the standards set forth on the subdivision map and that the Buzeraks have failed to maintain the road properly.

Funds Grow For Hoosick Veterans Memorial Wall

After the raffle winner was announced in Wood Park on Memorial Day, the Town of Hoosick Veterans Memorial Wall committee vowed to raise $10,000 by the fourth of July. With the greatest appreciation to a generous community, the committee was surprised and pleased to make that goal, and, in the weeks that followed, exceed it.
