Petersburgh Town Board Action – Personal Use Of Town Equipment

A citizen came to the Petersburgh Town Board meeting this month to report that Highway Superintendent Ray Harrison had used a Town loader to put a vehicle and some old farm equipment onto a trailer to be sold for scrap metal. He said he thought this was an improper private use of Town equipment.
Town Supervisor Peter Schaaphok thanked him for bringing the matter to the attention of the Town Board and said the Board would discuss it in executive session after the public meeting.

HFCS District Budget Passes By Big Margin

The mood at the Hoosick Falls School Board meeting Tuesday was celebratory after the voters of the Hoosick Falls School District passed the budget by a margin of better than 2 to 1. The tally was 528 yes to 224 no. The bus purchase proposition passed by a vote of 496 to 254. The Capital Reserve Fund proposition passed by a vote of 466 to 273.

New Lebanon Faces Second Lawsuit

In April, Howard Commander, the owner of the Lebanon Valley Speedway, filed a lawsuit against the Town. Recently, Robert Mittnight followed a similar path, publicly announcing his complaint against New Lebanon. He stated, in a brief presentation at the Town Board meeting on May 10, that the Town’s Zoning Enforcement Officer and ZBA apparently had no right to treat him as it did. Support Needed For Veterans Memorial Wall
The Hoosick Falls Veterans Memorial Wall Committee announced recently that the second phase to raise funds for completion of the Veterans Memorial Wall in Wood Park is now underway.
The projected cost for the Wall is $45,000. The first phase of the project has been completed at a cost of $10,000 which was funded by donations and in-kind services. Efforts are now underway to raise the remaining $35,000 which will cover the cost of six bronze plaques listing the names of all Hoosick area Veterans, installation and landscaping. The American Legion Taconic Valley Post #937 will be hosting a Memorial Day Parade in the Town of Berlin on Monday, May 31, at 11 am.
All interested marchers should assemble between the Baptist and Catholic Churches on Main Street at 10:30 am.

Grafton Town Board Action – May 2010

Herb Hasbrouck reported at the May 13 Grafton Town Board meeting that calcium chloride, the dust control product the Town is using, can no longer be picked up by Highway Department trucks. Because of heightened security, in order to pick up the calcium chloride, you now need to go through training and get licensed. To have the product delivered will cost an extra 71 cents per ton and a 12 cent per mile surcharge for gas used for the delivery.
