Village Of Hoosick Falls Board Action – Final Stretch Of Greenway Purchased

At the meeting of the Hoosick Falls Village Board on Tuesday, August 12, Margaret Casey and Paula Kamperman of the Hoosic River Greenway Committee requested that the Village purchase one and a quarter acres of land from the PanAm Railroad at the very northern end of the Greenway. The purchase and the closing costs are covered under a Greenway grant and will be no expense to the Village. Rensselaer County Legislature – Commending The Center For Nursing And Rehabilitation On Its 100th Anniversary

Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Rensselaer County Legislature was full of business pertaining to the Eastwick area – from the memorializing of John Greaney of Berlin to the awarding of funds to area youth programs, from the purchase of highway equipment in Stephentown to the commendation to the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls for its 100th anniversary.

Hoosick Town Board Action – Info Panels In Place For Battle Site

A letter from Andrew Alberti of Lakes to Locks Passage was read at the Town of Hoosick Board meeting on Monday evening, August 11. Alberti thanked Town Supervisor Mark Surdam, Councilman Dave Sutton and Highway Superintendent Bill Shiland and his son Bill for volunteering their time to install the Lakes to Locks information panels at the Stewart’s at the intersection of Routes 22 and 67. Reynolds Foundation Gives $12,000 To Community Organizations

On Monday, August 4, Reynolds Foundation Board Members Norma Brenenstuhl, Robert Becker, James Monahan, Armand Rousseau and William Shiland presented checks amounting to $12,000 to the Town of Hoosick Community Band, the Town of Hoosick Historical Society, the Hoosick Area Church Association Food Pantry, the Hoosick Falls Girl Scout Service Program, the Hoosick Falls Day Camp, the Cheney Library Children’s Reading Program, the Wood Park Residents Association and to the Reynolds Foundation in reserve for later disbursement.

29th Annual Run For The Roses

Sunshine and beautiful weather greeted this year’s participants for the 29th Annual Run for the Roses. The Grafton Community Library and Grafton Lakes State Park were happy to host 154 runners for this year’s event on the 5k course that is renowned for being “up hill the whole way.”

History Comes Alive In Hoosick

Brown’s To Open Walloomsac Brewery To Public

On Wednesday, August 27, from 6 to 9 pm Brown’s Brewing Company, 50 Factory Hill Road, Hoosick, will host “Wild BBQ”, a special evening featuring a meet and greet with the stars of the hit National Geographic show Building Wild. “Wild BBQ” will also feature a chicken barbecue, live music from local Northern American Rockers “Eastbound Jesus” and a live auction called by Ron and Kyle Seifert who appeared on an episode of the History Channel’s “American Pickers” this year. Cipperly Case May Go To Trial

On Monday, August 11, pre-trial motions were filed in Schaghticoke Town Court on behalf of former Hoosick Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly. On November 25, 2013, Cipperly was charged with Official Misconduct and Falsifying Business Records in the second degree.

According to Rensselaer County Acting District Attorney Arthur Glass, Jr., “It appears the case is headed towards a trial.” Glass added that things could happen that might change that status between now and Cipperly’s next court appearance on September 8.

Continuances

The case was moved from Hoosick to Pittstown to Schaghticoke. Cipperly first appeared before Schaghticoke Judge Jamie Thomas on February 10. The case has been continued monthly since then.

Don't smoke it. Indian pipe (Monotropa uniflora) is a native, waxy, white flower without chlorophyll. The flower first curves downward facing the ground but eventually stands upright like these pictured here. As the plant ages, it turns dark as the edges of this plant are now. The plant and roots have been used for various medicinal remedies. These were found in the deep woods of Petersburgh. Photo by Trix Niernberger.
