Stephentown resident Burt Swersey was recognized for outstanding service to students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s 206th Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 26. Boy Scout Troop 222 Visits Battleship

The boys from Boy Scout Troop 222 went on an adventure to Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA, aboard the battleship USS Massachusetts, BB59, “The big Mamie,” on Saturday, May 19, The Troop has been planning this trip for two years. The trip included staying overnight aboard the USS Massachusetts in the same bunks as the original WW II sailors and crew. The boys toured the ship and museum and a destroyer and a submarine that were moored alongside the battleship.

Berlin Middle/High School Is County Envirothon Champ

The Berlin High School Envirothon Team was named the Rensselaer County Capital Region winners on May 10. On Thursday, May 10th, the Berlin High School and Middle School Envirothon teams traveled to Schoharie Valley to the Blenheim Gilboa Center to compete in their first Envirothon competition – the 2012 Capital Region Envirothon. They finished in first place, outcompeting reigning champions Tech Valley High School. The students performed remarkably well given they only had several weeks to prepare. HFCS Baseball Plays Way Into Championship Game At Bruno Stadium

The Panther baseball team, ranked 6th in sectional seeding, traveled to Amsterdam last Saturday to take on the number 2 seed Rensselaer Rams at Shuttleworth Stadium. Although it took a bit for the team get going, the boys ended the game with a big win, 17 – 1.

Hoosick Falls Police Blotter May 18 to May 25, 2012
Friday, May 18 – The Hoosick Falls Police Department, with the assistance of the Rensselaer County Drug Task Force, completed a two month undercover investigation that resulted in the arrest of Jason Shaw, age 28, of 25 Willow Street, Hoosick Falls. Shaw was arrested on May 18 on a sealed indictment warrant charging him with two counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree. The investigation is continuing.

Boy Scout Troop 222 Honors Fallen Heroes

On May 5 the Cantering Cowpokes went to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Our local 4H group met up with other 4H groups from New York State to participate in Animal Crackers. This year’s program allowed 4H’ers to choose between learning about dogs or dairy cattle. All of the Cantering Cowpokes, who attended chose to learn about dairy cattle.
