Seagroatt’s Closes Down

Henry J. Seagroatt originally came to Berlin in 1913 to operate the greenhouses on the Arthur Cowee farm. Starting his own company in 1921, he built most of his own greenhouses during the Great Depression, and yet his floral business expanded all through the 1930s. But today’s bad economy is a different story. Officers of the Seagroatt Companies, deciding they could go no further, closed operations effective at the end of business last Friday.
Little Hoosic Watershed Association Update

Berlin American Legion Auxiliary Meeting
The Berlin American Legion Auxiliary Post #937 will have a meeting on Wednesday, May 6, at 7:30 pm at the Watipi Building in Berlin. Encouraged to attend are all wives, daughters, mothers, sisters, grandmothers and great-grandmothers, granddaughters and great-granddaughters of veterans. Relatives of military people currently serving on active duty are especially welcome.
Another Berlin Rabies Clinic
Due to the overwhelming demand for rabies vaccine at our rabies clinic last Thursday, the Town of Berlin will hold another clinic for dogs and cats on Thursday, May 7, at 7 pm at the Town of Berlin Highway Garage on Route 22 in the Town of Berlin. Rensselaer Land Trust Outing In Berlin
Saturday, May 16, 9 am – New Trail in the Capital District Wildlife Management Area – The Escarpment Trail is a new trail created by NYS DEC off of Schaefer Road at its Capital District Wildlife Management Area, in Cherry Plain (Town of Berlin). This trail is easy to rate as not difficult, as it is 2 miles long and all downhill! This trail offers a good introduction to the forests and landscapes of the Rensselaer Plateau.
This is a joint hike of the Taconic Hiking Club and the Rensselaer Land Trust. Leader is Doree Cox. Call Doree (658-2643) for meeting time and place.
Celebrate Mother’s Day With Flowering Plants
The Friends of the Berlin Library are offering a beautiful assortment of flowering plants every mother would love to receive. The choices are African violets for $5, Martha Washington geraniums for $10 and azaleas for $15. Plants are available to purchase beginning Saturday, April 25, through April 30. Samples of the plants can be seen at the Library and can be purchased by cash or check made payable to Friends of the Berlin Library. You can pick up your plant at Seagroatt’s on May 6, 7 and 8 from 8 am to 4 pm or at the Berlin Library on Saturday, May 9, from 10 am to 1 pm.
Rensselaer County District Five Legislature Get-together – Berlin/Cherry Plain
The Committee to Re-Elect Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote invites the public to a dinner buffet at The Bridgeway Restaurant, just off Route 22 in Cherry Plain, on May 7 at 7 pm. Tickets cost $30 each, $50 per couple. Reservations preferred by calling 518-322-8685 or 518-892-9427.
