Rev. Dr. N. Gordon Luther
Hoosick Falls – Rev. Dr. N. Gordon Luther, 78, formerly of Hoosick Falls, NY, passed away suddenly on November 28, 2010, in Goose Creek, SC.
Rev. Luther served the First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls as pastor of that congregation from September 1975 to May 1999. His leadership was not only instrumental in the growth of that Church but he was also a huge part of the Hoosick Falls community.

Hoosick Falls – Cynthia Tilley. 53, passed away on Friday. December 17, 2010, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY. She had resided on Railroad Avenue in Hoosick Falls, NY.

Lurana Parker
Johnsonville – Lurana (Corbin) Parker, 81, passed away on December 17, 2010, at her residence on River Road in Johnsonville, NY. She had resided there with her husband Daniel T. Parker.
Born on June 2, 1929, in Troy, NY, Lurana was the daughter of the late Percil and Mary (Smith) Corbin. She graduated from Troy High School and Mary McClellan Hospital School of Nursing in Cambridge, NY. She worked at the hospital for many years. Lurana enjoyed reading and was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Johnsonville and the D.A.V. Auxiliary.
Survivors, other than her husband, include two daughters, Janice Malo of Hoosick Falls, NY, and Patricia Parker Jones of Fairhaven, VT, a son, Daniel P. Parker of Johnsonville, a sister, Mary Catherine O’Dell of Grafton, NY, and a brother, Paul Corbin of Potter Hill, Hoosick, NY. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Lurana is pre-deceased by a sister, Alice Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to your local Rescue Squad or your local Fire Department in memory of Lurana.

How do you get 767 boxes of homemade cookies to servicemen and women in Afghanistan and Turkey for Christmas? With a great deal of advanced planning. Suzanne and Gary Fitzpatrick have the project down to a science now. This is the fourth year they have sent Christmas packages to their son and other men and women with Hoosick Falls ties stationed overseas.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Public Hearing On New Water Rate Set

At the regular Hoosick Falls Board meeting on Tuesday, December 14, Mayor Matt Monahan announced that a Public Hearing on the Village’s new water rates will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, January 11. The Hearing will be followed by the regular Board meeting. He said the rates will be available for review at the Village Clerk’s Office starting January 3, 2011.
Letters will be sent to the 40 households that still do not have water meters and to the 65 households that have installed meters that are not working correctly. If meters aren’t installed or working by January 15, property owners will be fined until they meet Village requirements. A Growing Celebration

Now in the hands of HAYC3, the tree lighting in Hoosick Falls continues to grow. Shops stayed open Friday evening, December 10. A small crowd gathered at 5 pm to see the tree lighted in Wood Park. From there folks wandered over to the Youth Center for a pancake supper. The parade through the Village to honor the community’s volunteer fire fighters began at six with decorated fire trucks from White Creek, North Hoosick, Hoosick and Hoosick Falls. Hoosick Falls Community Band To Celebrate The Christmas Season With Its 28th Concert
The Hoosick Falls Community Band under the baton of Bill Gaillard will carry on a tradition begun by Pastor Robert Sprunger (d) in 1982. He was a clarinet player in the band and thought it would be nice to have a concert in his church.
The 2010 concert will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evening, December 22, at 7:30 pm. All are cordially invited to attend this program which will feature traditional selections and four new ones that will cause a chuckle in many.
