Hoosick Falls House Gutted By Fire

Tom Vassello was in the process of selling his late parent’s home. “The house had been empty about a month,” he said. “We had a buyer and they were preparing to move in.” Unfortunately a suspected electrical fire created a change of plans. “Thank God no one was in there and no one was hurt,” said Vassello on Wednesday as he looked over the ruins. HAYC3 Received $625,000 Grant

The Hoosick Area Youth Center and Community Coalition (HAYC3) recently received a Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) grant for $625,000. HACA Community Walk For Hunger Raises $5,000

About thirty people took time to walk over the weekend to benefit the HACA Food Closet. Many chose times other than the two o’clock Sunday afternoon time to walk for their money. Between the walkers and corporate contributors $2,500 was raised. That money was doubled through a matching grant.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Dispatch Agreement With County Approved

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 12, the Village of Hoosick Falls Board approved a motion for the Mayor to sign the Dispatch Agreement with Rensselaer County. The Mayor noted that the Town of Hoosick contributed $5,500 toward the Village’s Dispatch operation this year. Next year it will contribute the same amount when the Village switches to the County service and pays an annual fee of $12,000. After next year, the Town will no longer contribute to the service as townspeople pay for the service through County taxes.

The Cheney Library is excited to announce that it will be having a fall book and bake sale on Saturday, October 23, from 8 am to 1 pm at the Library. The Library is located on Classic Street/Route 22 across from the old St. Mary’s building in Hoosick Falls. We will be selling bags of books for $2 each, and we will have a wide variety of selections for you to choose from.
