On Saturday, September 18, the Empire State Capital Volkssporters (ESCV) will be coming to Hoosick Falls to host a One-Day Traditional Event starting at the Ken Baker Sports Complex on Barton Avenue. Self guided walks begin at 9:30 and continue until noon. There will be two groups with guides starting out about 9:45; one will follow the 10K (about 6 mile) route and the other will take the 5K (about 3 mile) route. The Karen McGovern Legacy Continues

Karen McGovern, a young vivacious woman, loved by friends and family, was stricken with cancer and put up a valiant, but unsuccessful battle against the disease. She passed away eleven years ago. Yet her memory lives on in Hoosick Falls almost every day and especially on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. That is the date of the Karen McGovern Volleyball Tournament. Cell Transplants Save Lives

Bill Johnston, a past recipient of the Karen McGovern Award was at the McGovern Volleyball Tournament Saturday promoting the National Marrow Donor Registry. This past spring he organized two donor drives in Hoosick Falls urging people to participate in the Registry.

Vacation Bible School Raises Money For Veterans Memorial Wall

The High Seas Expedition Vacation Bible School sponsored by the Hoosick Falls First Baptist Church and First United Presbyterian Church was held July 19 to 23. This year’s Mission Project was the Veterans Memorial Wall in Wood Park in Hoosick Falls. A free will offering was taken at the opening program each night during VBS.

A Summer Family Fair

Carnival ride lights illuminated the Town of Hoosick Athletic Field Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week. Unfortunately for the teenagers, most of the rides were geared for the younger set. Adults who took the time to browse around found great musical entertainment by the Champagne Jam Country & Western band, an antique car show and a dozen or more vendors of jewelry, clothing and assorted handcrafts. There was plenty to eat and Boy Scouts to visit while they camped out. Skilled belly dancer Fiona Slattery was an added attraction near the food concessions.

Campers Get Their Kicks On Route 66
The final camp of the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition 2010 summer enrichment series had youngsters taking a road trip along Historic Route 66 from Chicago to California. Campers created scenes from each of the eight states along the “Main Street of America” and presented a showcase, complete with a Route 66 diner and an Air Streamer camper, for friends and parents to explore.

Back-2-School Boost Is An Overwhelming Success
Just in time for opening day of school, parents and students picked up backpacks filled with supplies on Saturday morning at the HACA Center on John Street.
