St. Mary’s Academy Spring Auction

St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls is holding its Annual Spring Auction on Saturday, April 17, at the school at 4 Parsons Avenue. Priceless works of art created by the students will be up for bid as well as a Queen Natural Form Mattress Set from WCW, Mets baseball tickets for the June 6 game against the Florida Marlins, 3-day accommodations on Martha’s Vineyard, brunch for 4 at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs, autographed jerseys from Donovan McNabb, Chris Pronger and Andre Iguodala, season passes to Hathaway’s Drive-In in North Hoosick and much more! Doors open at 6 pm, and the live auction will begin at 7 pm. Light fare and a cash bar will be available. Call the school at 686-4314 for more details.

Horseshoe League Meeting

There will be a horseshoe league meeting at the Barbecue on Tuesday, April 20, at 7 pm.
Anyone interested in pitching or who has a team should attend. The league pitches on Wednesday and Thursday nights beginning at 6:20 pm.

Body Not Yet Found Of Woman Presumed Drowned

The Hoosick Falls Police Department, area firefighters and State and County rescue personnel were all part of a search operation on the Hoosic River Easter Sunday and Monday. According to Police Chief Robert Ashe, a call came in about 12:15 am that a woman might have fallen in the river near the River St. bridge. Witnesses told police they had seen a woman walking in and out of the road and they had spoken to her. They said she appeared “highly intoxicated.” The woman told them she was going into the woods by the river. They lost sight of her and a short time later they heard a splash. Hoosick Falls Discusses Greenway Project Development

Hoosick Falls Is Third In Water Taste Test

Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino has announced the winner of this year’s Water Taste Test Contest as the Village of Nassau. The Village will now compete in the regional Water Taste Test Contest to be held later on this summer. The Town of Schodack came in second, the Village of Hoosick Falls third and the City of Troy Public Water Supply placed forth in the annual contest. Over 100 individuals participated in the contest by choosing their favorite and second favorite tasting water.

From Sheep To Floor For St. Mary’s Auction

Mrs. Merwin’s seventh grade class at St. Mary’s Academy has been hard at work on their class project to be put up for bid at St. Mary’s Annual Spring Auction.  The students are starting with wool from a local Shetland sheep to create a naturally dyed and hand braided rug.  This year’s Auction will be held on Saturday, April 17.

Local Girls Complete Babysitting Training Course

Irish Stewers

Hoosick Falls Youth Basketball Has Successful Season

The Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition youth travel basketball program participated in the Greylock, Peru Challenge, Glens Falls Super Hooper Classic, Hudson Falls Winter Frenzy, Lake George Holiday Inn Classic and the St. Anne’s Shooters basketball tournaments. The travel teams are made up of boys and girls in grades 5 though 9.
