Sunday, October 13, was a picture perfect Autumn day. The ideal weather brought a huge crowd of kids and adults to the Hoosick Athletic Field for the Annual St. Mary’s Academy Cow Plop. $8,000 Gift For Greenway From WHIPS

At its recent meeting, the Whipstock Hill Preservation Society (WHIPS) Board voted to donate $8,000 to the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA) to help cover the costs of resurfacing the northern section of the Hoosic River Greenway in Hoosick Falls. This section was cleared and graded earlier this year. The southern section was resurfaced in 2011.

Hoosick WW II Veterans Recognition Ceremony

Due to overwhelming response by our WW II veterans and their families, we have had to stop taking reservations from the public for the WW II Veterans Recognition Ceremony on October 26. We have a full house.
If you are looking for a way to show your support for our local heroes, you can line Main Street to cheer them on as they ride behind the Patriot Guard Riders from HF Community Alliance Church to the Armory between 9:40 and 9:50 am that morning. We hope many will come out to show their respect and gratitude for what these men have done for us.

West Hoosick FD Pancake Breakfast

The West Hoosick Fire Department will serve an “all you can eat” breakfast at the firehouse on Sunday, October 20, from 7:30 to 11 am. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. This will be our last breakfast for the year so stop by before you head out to do all your fall activities. The firehouse is located on Pine Valley Road near the intersection of County Routes 109 and 103. Please call the firehouse at 686-1814 if you have any questions.

HooRWA State of the River Conference

This year’s Hoosic River Watershed Association’s State of the River Conference will take place in the Fellowship Hall of the Williamstown Congregational Church on Saturday, November 2, from 9:30 am to 12 noon.  The main focus will be PCBs in the Hoosic River.
Local and regional news are filled with stories of polychlorinated bi-phenols (PCBs) present in the sediments and within the aquatic food chain of the Housatonic and Hudson Rivers and the clean ups planned or underway to remove them.  PCBs are also present in the Hoosic River.
Williams College chemistry professors David Richardson and Jay Thoman, along with students Amanda Schott and Austin Paul, have analyzed crawfish taken from the Hoosic River and most recently from the Green River and North Branch in Massachusetts.
Professors Richardson and Thoman and Mr. Paul will report on their research findings and on other PCB studies going back to 1991.
The Church is located at 906 Main Street, at the intersection of Main Street (Route 2) and Chapin Hall Drive, in Williamstown, MA.

Charges and countercharges were bandied about during the Public Comment period of the regular Hoosick Town Board meeting held on Tuesday, October 8. The public comments were sometimes heated, and all were directed at the Board or at Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly directly.

HF Boy Scout Troop 63 Rescues Flags

A water line broke in the American Legion Post 40 building on Main Street in Hoosick Falls recently.  Members of the Legion found that water was spraying all over the basement, and the water was about 2 feet deep.  A lot of property was soaking wet and in danger of being destroyed.  [Read more…] about HF Boy Scout Troop 63 Rescues Flags
