The Ninth Annual Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Town of Hoosick Republican Party, will be held on Saturday, September 21, at the Hoosick Falls Country Club with an 8:30 am shotgun start. This is an 18 hole, four man scramble format. Lunch will be served at the turn, and several prizes and raffles will be awarded at the conclusion. Win $20,000 cash with a hole-in-one on hole #6.
This may be the last chance you get to golf this season. So gather your team and come enjoy the fun.

The  first meeting of the 2013-2014 year for the Ondawa-Cambridge Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will  be Friday, September 6, at 12 pm at the Red Roost Restaurant on Route 22 in Cambridge.  Lunch will be ordered from the menu with separate checks.  There will be a ritual and business meeting led by Regent Jeanne Massey.  The program will be by Kathryn (Mike) Taylor whose topic will  be “Washington County Historical Society as a Research Center for Genealogy.”  Hostesses are Lois Sheaff and Jeanne Massey.
Any woman who believes she is eligible to join the DAR may call the Regent at 518-677-3324.  Eligibility is based on the Revolutionary War service of a direct ancestor.  Chapter members reside primarily in Cambridge, Shushan, Buskirk, Greenwich, Hoosick Falls and Bennington.  Visitors are welcome.

Recently Brionna Whitman received her Master’s Degree and Certificate of Advanced Study in School Psychology from the University of Albany. Brionna is a 2006 graduate of Hoosick Falls Central School and the daughter of Curtis and Jane Whitman of White Creek, NY.

Fan Wang of Hoosick is attending the University of Dayton this fall as part of an incoming class that is the most selective in school history, as well as one of the most academically prepared and geographically diverse. The University welcomed about 1,900 first year students when classes started August 21.
“We are exceptionally pleased with the quality and the size of the incoming class,” said Sundar Kumarasamy, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Marketing. “With increasing competition in Ohio and nationally for a declining number of college-aged students, we are gratified to see the University of Dayton’s continued broad appeal all over the world. It’s a resounding endorsement of the academic quality and value of a Catholic, Marianist education.”
Wang comes to campus as part of the most competitive class in the University’s history. Only about one out of every two applicants was accepted, as competition to get into the private, Catholic university continues to rise. At 52 percent, overall selectivity is up nearly 30 percentage points in just a decade.
This is the first class to receive a four year financial plan with full disclosure of all costs and a pledge their scholarships and grants will grow dollar for dollar each year to match tuition increases. It’s part of a national call for transparency in college costs and has been very well received by parents and students, according to Kumarasamy.
