Hoosick’s HAYC3 Community Coalition In Contention For National Honor

HAYC3’s Community Coalition is in the running for a prestigious national award from the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America. The award recognizes established coalitions for successfully implementing comprehensive and collaborative strategies to achieve one or more targeted community-level multiple substance abuse programs. It is the highest honor CADCA bestows.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – Cell Tower Improvements

A Public Hearing on the installation of three new LTE antennas to the tower on Wilson Hill Road was held at 7 pm on Monday, July 15. Maryanne Terry of Site Acquisition, representing AT&T, said the LTEs will be beneficial to the Town and its customers and provide easier and faster service. No one attended the hearing to object, and the Board approved the request.
The regular Planning Board meeting followed the hearing. Minutes of the June meeting were reviewed and approved. As no one appeared before the Board with any planning requests or issues, the meeting quickly adjourned on the hot summer evening.

St. Mary’s Golf Scramble and Alumni Banquet Is SMA’s first major fundraiser of the 2013-2014 School Year.
Don’t miss St. Mary’s Academy Alumni Weekend on August 2 and 3. The Golf Scramble will take place on Friday, August 2, at the Hoosick Falls Country Club, and the Alumni Banquet will be at the school on Saturday, August 3. Alumni Weekend is an exciting event for all members of the SMA family, former and current SMA parents and students, as well as community members.
At the Scramble, you can play golf and/or sponsor a hole. Spectators are welcome at the Club to cheer on the players and enjoy the festive atmosphere. The Scramble never fails to delight and entertain the whole family, golfers and non-golfers alike. Tee-off times are 8 am and 1 pm. The registration fee of $70 includes golf, lunch and Babson’s light fare supper.
As always, the Alumni Banquet is looking like it will be an enjoyable evening. The event will be held at the school, and there will be a catered dinner buffet by Scott Areson. Music for listening and dancing will follow the festivities. Come prepared to have a wonderful time with “old” friends! Cocktail Hour is 6 to 7 pm, dinner begins at 7.

Building Creativity One LEGO® Brick At A Time

The kids at the HAYC3 Youth Center love LEGO®. LEGO® allows children to be creative and innovative in a fun, hands-on, interactive way. LEGO® pushes kids to use their minds to build complex and interesting constructions and solve visual and structural problems. They help kids learn to work and play together.
The more LEGO® bricks we have at the Youth Center, the better it is for our kids. Please look around your house for LEGO® bricks that your children (or child-at-heart adults) no longer use. Or take a moment to purchase new sets from your local store. Either way, your donation, new or used, large or small, will be a huge benefit to our kids and help us to help them build teamwork, creativity and motor skills.

Hubbard Hall Presents Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night In The Park

All Hubbard Hall performances of  Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night are at 7 pm. Admission is free. Bring your own chair. This play is suitable for all ages. Among the performers are local students and young adults from Hoosick Falls – Katherine Danforth, Adrianna Kalenian and Ana Anderson, Eagle Bridge – Gabriel Patterson, Greenwich – Virginia Edinger and Alice Durning and Cambridge – Digby Baker-Porazinski, Jack Boggan, Jonas Werger and Madeline Matthers.

Fr. Tom Zelker listened to a proclamation from Hoosick Falls Mayor David Borge, read by Deputy Mayor Ric DiDonato on Saturday afternoon in front of the Municipal Building. He rode in his special “Popemobile” that took him through Village streets as part of a grand parade that included marchers, bicyclists, cars, a tractor and hay wagon filled with people, an ambulance and a fire truck. Hoosick Town Board Action – Local Law On Foreclosed Properties Tabled

The Town of Hoosick Board met at 6:45 on Monday, July 8, for a Public Hearing on Local Law #1 regarding maintenance of foreclosed properties. Questions were asked by Dennis Casey and others as to whether the law dealt with all Town properties and/or Village properties. The answer was no, the law dealt strictly with Town foreclosed properties that were not being maintained by the Banks that now owned them. Wild Edible Plants And Medicinal And Practical Uses

A seminar on wild edible plants and their medicinal and practical uses will be held all day on Sunday, July 14, beginning at 9 am at the Buskirk Better Living Center located in the Buskirk Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2176 West Hoosick Road (Rt. 67 & County Rt. 103)  in Buskirk.
The speaker will be Mike Lowe. He is the founder of Wilderness Way Adventures, Inc. and has been teaching outdoor skills professionally since 1980. He began his career in the U.S. Air Force Survival School and has worked with hundreds of men, women and children from all walks of life since then. Mike holds an AA in Wilderness Survival, an AA in Search and Rescue and is a certified survival and rescue technician and instructor.
Please bring your favorite books on wild edible plants, medicinal plants and wildflowers.
