Cambridge Concert In The Park

August 2, 2013 By eastwickpress

The Village of Cambridge presents the Roadside Blues Band on August 4 at 2 pm as the last band of its summer concert series.
Anyone who has seen the Roadside Blues Band perform knows that not only are they the most authentic and deeply rooted blues musicians in these parts but that they are the best of friends as well. Approaching the anniversary of their twelfth year together, Billy Lanchantin (guitar), Michael Krauss (harmonica), Mitch Throop (bass) and Peter Maine (drums) have an organic quality to their playing and singing that is playful yet inspiring.
Please bring your chairs and blankets; snacks and cold drinks will be provided by a local not-for-profit organization.
In the event of rain or a terrible forecast the concert will move to the Railroad Passenger Depot on Broad Street; signs will be posted at the gazebo if the concert is moved. The acoustics in the Train Station are fantastic, and the building is beautiful, so rain or shine the concerts are a great experience.
For information about the concert, visit the village website at  cambridgeny.gov or contact the Village by phone 518-677-2622.

Battle Of Gettysburg At The Cheney

July 26, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
Former HFCS teacher Michael Russert captivated his audience of forty at the Cheney Library on Tuesday evening, July 9. There was not a sound as he told of the life of author Michael Shaara and his famous book, Killer Angels, about the Battle of Gettysburg. He followed it up with interesting facts on that Battle and information on Hoosick Falls’ Company A of the 125th NY Volunteer Infantry Regiment that fought there as well.

Letter To The Editor – Thank You All!

July 26, 2013 By eastwickpress

To the editor:
I would like to thank all the emergency responders for their quick response to the tractor trailer rollover accident on Route 7 on July 15. Many times we forget how much work and dedication goes into making a fire department, police department or rescue squad a well run organization until we need them. I am proud to say we have some of the best organizations in all of New York State!
I appreciate and would like to thank everyone of you for your service. Your dedication to your community does not go unnoticed.
Respectfully,
Keith Cipperly Town of Hoosick Supervisor

Linda Orton Takes Thoroughbred Hunter Championship At The Vermont Summer Festival

July 26, 2013 By eastwickpress

Linda Orton and her own Top Honors were awarded the hunter championship title during the inaugural week of TAKE2 Thoroughbred classes at the Vermont Summer Festival. With owner and trainer Linda Orton, Top Honors nearly swept the division, collecting blue ribbons in all but one class during week two of competition at the Vermont Summer Festival at Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset, VT.
Top Honors has been an invaluable member of Orton’s Manor Ridge Farm, based in Hoosick Falls, for over ten years. While the horse’s sire was a noted racehorse, Top Honors never made it to the track. Instead, Orton acquired him when he was just over one year old and trained him into a trusted show mount.
