The Second Annual Hoosick Hometown Days Is Friday

It’s time for the Second Annual Hoosick Hometown Days. Stop down for a fun filled family weekend at the Hoosick Falls Athletic Fields. From noon until 10 pm on August 3 and 4, this community event will feature something for everyone.
The grounds will be filled with vendors, concessions by local non-profit organizations, local musical talent and a dunking booth.  Amyland Amusements will be setting up some of their best rides and carnival games for the weekend. Wrist bands for rides will be available for $25. St. Mary’s Academy will be providing all of your favorite carnival foods throughout the weekend.

New Publications At The Cheney Library

The Cheney Library has many new publications. Three new ones are being introduced this month.
What’s eating my flowers?! You can meet those little, crawling creatures in The Secret Lives of Backyard Bugs by Judy Burris and Wayne Richards. You will find great close-up photography and see these insects in all their life stages. This book is not just for gardeners but for all nature lovers.

Per Amore Di Un Circo ~ For the Love of A Circus At HFCS

We, the members of Hubbard Hall Inc.’s Conservatory, The 20/20 Visionaries, write our own play, our own music, create our own choreography, design and build our own sets, all on a budget of $0. All rehearsals and creativity takes place in the backyard of Hubbard Hall, right in Cambridge, and at the Hoosick Falls Central School.
A performance of “For the Love of A Circus” will be taking place in the auditorium of Hoosick Falls Central School on Sunday, August 5, at 2 pm, with no admission fee. All we ask is that you bring yourself, your friends and family and be prepared to enjoy a journey back to the Great Depression and be ready to experience the lives of those who are employed in a traveling circus.

On July 25 we were very fortunate to have Mr. Paul Davendonis, Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Deputy. Mr. Davendonis is in the canine division. The Program Chairman was Marion Brenenstuhl. She was unable to be there, so the Lecturer introduced him.

Defensive Driving Course In Hoosick Falls

The Northeast New York Safety & Health Council will sponsor the Defensive Driving Course at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, Danforth Street, Hoosick Falls, on Saturday, September 8, beginning at 8:30 am promptly.
Successful completion of this class allows for a 10 percent insurance reduction on collision and liability for 3 years as well as the reduction of 4 points from your driver’s license on points acquired in the prior 18 months.
The course fills up quickly, please register early by calling 686-4854.

Johnsonville Rescue Squad Breakfast

The Johnsonville Rescue Squad located at 4 River Road is holding its monthly breakfast on  Sunday, August 5, from 7:30 to 11:30 am. Cost adults $6 children $3. Audra Foster Is Named To The Gettysburg College Dean’s List

Audra Foster, of Hoosick, has been placed on the Gettysburg College Dean’s Honor list for outstanding academic achievement in Spring 2012.
Students with a quality point average of 3.60 or higher, on a 4.0 scale, for a semester’s work are placed on the College’s Dean’s Honor List.

The War And Women

Take a trip back in time at the Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site and discover what life was like for women during the Revolutionary War. The summer program titled “The War and Women” will be held on Sunday, August 5, at 2 pm and will take a look in to women’s lives during the Revolutionary War, including learning the language of the fan and a traditional craft. Come prepared for a hands-on experience to discover what life was like way back when.
This is an introductory class ideal for the whole family.  There is a $2.00 program fee per person or $5 per family.

HHOT Presents Mozart’s The Magic Flute

The Hubbard Hall Opera Theater (HHOT) will present Mozart’s family favorite, The Magic Flute, in six performances from August 8 to 19 on Hubbard Hall’s mainstage at 25 East Main Street in Cambridge, NY. Performances, fully costumed and staged with a 19-piece orchestra, will be sung in German with supertitles and spoken in English.
