On January 13 the Society of St. Stanislaw, “The Polish Hall,” achieved the significant milestone of 100 years of existence and service to the greater Hoosick Community. The Society has over 500 members.

Girl Scout Fun And Learning At GLSP
On May 29 forty-five Hoosick Girl Scouts, their leaders, and helping parents had a fun and learning filled day at Grafton Lakes State Park. Presenters included New York State Forest Ranger Joe Hess who taught them about stink bugs and funky weeds, and how to always remain calm (STOP – Stop, Think, Observe, Plan); nutritionist Joanne Tilly who worked with the girls to make a healthy trail mix with dried apricots, cherries, blueberries, and craisins; and singer Shari Hand, who led them in a traditional Girl Scout sing-a-long of patriotic songs and the classic “Rock Candy Mountain.”

Poker Run Benefits Karen McGovern Fund

On Saturday May 19, over 70 motorcycles and one sports car turned out for the St. Stanislaw Society’s Annual Poker Run to benefit The Karen McGovern Memorial Fund. The riders made stops at the American Legion in Arlington, VT, Kevin’s in North Bennington, The Man of Kent in Tibbet’s Forest and Louis’s in Schagticoke, before completing their ride and receiving their last poker card at the Society’s Hall in Hoosick Falls where a dinner, hosted by the women of the Society, completed the day’s events. HAYC3 Prepares For Pumpkinpalooza 4
Pumpkins, laughter, zombies, and art will be filling the air in Hoosick Falls during the Fourth Annual Pumpkinpalooza, set for the weekend of September 29 to 30. This family-friendly community event is a pride and tradition initiative organized by HAYC3 and sponsored by the Drug Free Communities grant. Rain date is Sunday, September 30.

Ed Carknard (EC) Golf Scramble
The family of Ed Carknard is now gearing up for the 2012 EC Golf Scramble at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Saturday, August 11. The EC Fund supports the Hoosick Wrestling Club, Youth Football, Field Hockey Camps, Traveling Basketball, Bowling, Youth Cheerleading, Basketball Camp, Youth Baseball, Youth Soccer and high school Baseball and Football. It also offers community youth golf opportunities, provides uniforms for St. Mary’s athletes and footwear for kids participating in any sport. The EC fund contributes to the Youth Center and has provided funds to the girls soccer team for their trip to Europe.
The 2011 Golf Scramble was a great success. Over 150 people participated, making it the most successful event to date. Hopefully this year will be even better.
SMA Golf Scramble
The 2012 Annual St. Mary’s Academy Golf Scramble will be held on Friday, August 3, at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. The event is Scramble Format/Shot Gun Starts with 8 am or 1 pm tee times. Cost is $70 per person with four person teams and includes greens fees, cart, lunch and light fair dinner. Spectators are welcome to watch the fun and enjoy lunch and dinner for $10.

Second Annual Hoosick Hometown Days
Save the date! The Second Annual Hoosick Hometown Days will be held on August 3 and 4 at the Town of Hoosick Athletic Fields. This community event will feature something for everyone from noon until 10 pm each day! The grounds will be filled with vendors, concessions by local non-profit organizations, local musical talent and a dunking booth. Carnival rides and games will be provided by AmyLand Amusements. On Saturday there will be a Car Show hosted by the Girl Scouts and the evening will be topped off with a fireworks display provided by Alonzo Fireworks. Watch for more details in the coming weeks.

“You’re A Star” At Girl Scout Camp August 6 To 10
Time is running out! Sign up now! The Sports Complex at Hoosac School will once again host the Hoosick Falls Girl Scout camp. The Camp is open to all girls who will be in grades one to six in September and who live in the Town of Hoosick or the Village of Hoosick Falls.

First Annual Fall Sports Fest In Hoosick
Football, Soccer, Field Hockey, Golf, Cheer… come play your sport! The First Annual Fall Sports Fest will be held on Saturday, August 4, at the George Helft Soccer Complex on South St. in Hoosick. An entry fee of $20 covers all activities. The event will benefit the Hoosick Falls Central School Varsity Club, Hoosick Falls Soccer Club and the Ed Carknard Fund.
