Hoosick Grange News

It was open meeting night at Hoosick Grange on April 25. It was preceded by a covered dish supper that was just delicious with a great variety of foods. After the supper we had a video on the Rutland Corkscrew Railroad. This was the part that ran to Johnsonville and beyond. We had already seen the first part of the video from North Bennington to Chatham. We had people comment on their train experience. We thanked Martha and Don Babbitt for the program.

HFCS PTA To Host Book Fair Event On May 10

Hoosick Falls Central School PTA will host a Scholastic Book Fair and Family Night Luau on Thursday, May 10, from 6 to 8 pm with ice cream and popcorn in the elementary cafeteria. The goal of this annual event is to increase literacy among students and raise funds to purchase books for the elementary school library.  Families, teachers and the community are invited to attend the Book Fair for a night of fun for everyone!

Large Collection Of Clothes Offered At Thrift Store

The Hoosick Falls Thrift Store has a large collection of clothes for all seasons, all ages and all shapes and sizes. And all are priced extremely reasonably. Prices range from $.25 (children’s clothing) to $1 for men’s and women’s tops, pants and skirts and $3 for adult jackets and suits. Or, shoppers can fill a provided shopping bag for $3. Only cash will be accepted for purchases.

West Hoosick Fire Dept. Mothers Day Pancake Breakfast

The West Hoosick Fire Department is serving an All You Can Eat Mothers Day Breakfast at the firehouse on Sunday, May 13, from 7:30 to 11 am. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Treat your family and especially your mom to a great breakfast. The firehouse is located on Pine Valley Road near the intersection of County Routes 109 and 103.  If you have questions, please call the firehouse at 686-1814.

Rensselaer Land Trust May Outings

The public is invited to attend.
On Saturday, May 5, at 10 am volunteers are needed for the third annual tree planting gathering at the public boat launch at the Rensselaer Land Trust’s Hoosic River property in Eagle Bridge. NYS DEC is providing seedlings for landscaping and erosion control. Bring gloves, a shovel, a bucket, a snack and a drink. We will work regardless of weather. The boat launch is about one mile west of Eagle Bridge on the north side of Route 67 at the DEC sign. HAYC3 Willing To Step Up And Take Over The Armory

“If the Town is not willing to purchase the Armory,” said HAYC3 Director Aelish Nealon, “then, as a backup plan, HAYC3 (Hoosick Area Youth Center and Community Coalition) is willing to step up and take ownership.” Nealon added that HAYC3 is a community based not-for-profit organization that is concerned with the welfare of the entire Hoosick community. “We don’t want to see the building be empty,” she said. HAYC3 is waiting to hear what sort of decision the Hoosick Town Board makes at its next regular meeting on Monday, May 14, before going any further with a plan.

Hoosick Fire Dept. Repeats As Friday National Bowling League Champions

The Hoosick Fire Department captured its second straight championship in the Friday National League at the Barbecue Recreation this past Sunday with a win over Hathaway Electric in the rolloff. Hathaway Electric won the first of three splits and captured most overall wins for the year while the Hoosick Fire Department earned a shot at the championship by winning both the second and third splits.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – April 2012

Judy Kelly appeared before the Board with a completed boundary line adjustment application for property on Spicer Hill and Yager Roads. The Board approved the adjustment.
Joseph Welsh appeared before the Board to confirm that property he had recently purchased on Young Road had been subdivided at one point. Records confirmed the property had been subdivided in 1997.

Hoosick Grange News – Corkscrew Railroad

Hoosick Grange had it’s regular meeting on April 11 with Master David Cornell. It was an open meeting. The Lecturer’s program was on the Rutland Corkscrew Railroad.
