Bev Freemantle Receives President’s Volunteer Service Award

Some people can never do enough for other people. Bev Freemantle of Pittstown is one of those people. Many years ago Bev retired from the telephone company with 30 years of service. While she worked she was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the largest industry related volunteer organization in the world. She still volunteers with the Pioneers. Her group has made playground maps, put together health kits for the homeless and twice a year serves meals at Joseph’s House & Shelter in Troy.

Hoosick Town Board Narrows Town Hall Choice

During the people to be heard portion of the Hoosick Town Board meeting Monday evening, January 9, Kevin Allard, a member of the Save the Armory Committee, suggested the Board reduce its options from four sites to two regarding a future Town Hall. He recommended that the Patire and Weeb’s Fish Fry properties be dropped from the list and the Board focus on either renovating the Armory or building a new Town Hall. Harry Weir Foundation Gives $8,000 To Hoosick Area

On Saturday, January 7, Norma Brenenstuhl, on behalf of Key Private Bank trust administrator Michele Nichols, presented checks from the Harry Weir Foundation to the following individuals for their organizations. The amount distributed this year was $8,000. That is five thousand dollars less than was available from the fund the previous year. The presentations were made at the Cheney Library.

Skating Lesson Registration For Local Skaters

The Hoosick Friends of Skating Club will hold skating lesson registration on Saturday, January 14, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Reynolds-Gilchrest Skating Rink on Barton Avenue in Hoosick Falls.

Update: Irish Stew Cook-Off, Irish Music And Irish Basket Bingo

The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade Committee will host three events on Saturday, January 14. An Irish Stew Cook-Off will be held from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Bring it on! Let’s see who makes the best Irish stew in the area. There is a $25 entry fee. Prizes will be awarded. The Best Irish Stew King or Queen will be honored in the Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade. Local Dirtbike Racer Wins Grand Championship For 2011

Tanner Wolfrum, a 12 year old seventh-grader at Hoosick Falls Central School, took his first solo ride on a PW50 at a little over two years old and has been racing dirt bikes since 2007. He is a member of the Stateline Riders Motorcycle Club, New England Trail Riders Association (NETRA) and AMA, competing in Hare Scrambles, Jr. Enduros, Motocross and Super Moto races.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – Veterinary Clinic On Route 67

Delaney addressed the Town of Hoosick Planning Board regarding his purchase of a 52′ by 27′ modular home with full cellar on Route 67 in Walloomsac and his plan to convert it into a Veterinary Clinic. A Tour Of The Hoosick Falls Armory

Jim Warren of New York's State Historic Preservation Office answered questions and toured the Hoosick Falls Armory with the Save the Armory Committee Wednesday evening. They took time to look at the building’s heating system. The cost of heating the building will be one determining factor in continuing to use the facility as a Town Hall.
