Hoosick Falls Registration For Spring Soccer Is Now Open

The Hoosick Falls Soccer Club offers an organized soccer program for children 4 to 18 years of age. For more information and to register go to hoosickfallssoccer.org.
Rec./In-House programs are available for children in pre-k through sixth grade. Games are played at the George Helft Soccer Complex on South Street in Hoosick Falls. Registration deadline is April 1. For more information about our Rec/In-house program contact Paul Dunham at 518-753-7690.
Travel Team Deadline Is January 1
Travel teams are available for ages 10-18. Teams compete in the Capital District Youth Soccer League. Games are played at the George Helft Soccer Complex and at the fields of competing teams in the Capital District. The registration deadline is January 1. For more information about the travel program, contact Steve Hinchliffe at 518-488-4386.

HACA Food Pantry “Holiday Food And Funds Drive”

Food and Funds are still being accepted for the annual Holiday Food Box distribution. Thanksgiving boxes were provided to 169 families thanks to the efforts of many community volunteers. Potatoes were bagged, boxes assembled, cases of food stacked, and fresh herbs picked from the HACA/Girl Scout herb garden. For many families this was the first time they had ever needed help. As one lady said, “I have always helped others, now I need help.” Many must choose between food and fuel; it is not an easy choice.

Hoosic River Greenway Groundbreaking Begins

A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction on the Hoosic River Greenway will be held on Sunday, December 4, at 1 pm. The public is invited to attend. Attendees should meet at the old waterworks off Carey Avenue in the Village of Hoosick Falls.
A 2.5 mile long abandoned railbed was purchased from Pan Am Railways by the Village in 2009, largely with funds raised locally. The event will provide an opportunity to thank those who contributed to the purchase of the Greenway lands.

Area Men Accused Of Deer Poaching

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) police officers recently concluded a blanket deer taking enforcement detail in the Capital Region and surrounding areas in conjunction with the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. A number of area men were cited by DEC officers during this enforcement detail.

Hoosick Area Tree Lighting And Costume Parade

Calling all Elves! The Hoosick Falls community tree lighting, caroling and festive costume parade starts in Wood Park at 6 pm on Friday, December 9. Participants are encouraged to create a festive holiday costume. Those who aren’t into costumes should be sure to dress warm!
After the tree lighting and caroling, the parade will leave Wood Park and proceed to the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition building at 115 Church Street. At the Center there will be free hot chocolate and snacks while the little ones wait to meet Santa. He will have a little something for everyone. There will be prizes for the best costume and best group, either walking or on a float. For more information call Aelish Nealon at 686-9050.

HAYC3 Focuses On Art

Holiday Folk Art Classes For Children
The Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3) is offering a series of Saturday morning folk art classes in time for your children to create holiday projects. Each class will run from 10 to 11:30 am at HAYC3, 115 Church Street, Hoosick Falls.
Saturday Sessions are $10 for members ($25 for all three) and $15 for non-members ($40 for all three).

Lions Sell Trees

On Saturday, December 10, the Town of Hoosick Lions Club will once again be selling Christmas trees in the Grand Union parking lot. Trees are local and fresh cut and will be ready to sell by 9 am. Christmas tree sales are one of the Club’s main fundraisers and proceeds benefit the local community and sight, hearing and diabetes related causes. Trees go fast so be sure to come early.

WNF&G Christmas Party

The Cambridge Area Branch of the Woman’s National Farm and Garden will celebrate at their next meeting with a Christmas party at Albie’s Restaurant at 12 noon on Thursday, December 8. Lunch can be ordered off the menu. Members are asked to bring non-perishable items for the food pantry.  Mary Lee Weeks and Arlene Karpiak are hostesses for this meeting.

Before the November 14 Hoosick Town Board meeting a one hour public hearing was held to discuss the Draft Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan.
