Karen McGovern Volleyball Tournament

The 12th Annual Karen McGovern Memorial Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament will be held September 10 at the Sand Bar on Lyman Street in Hoosick Falls.
Registration will begin at 9 am and play will start shortly thereafter. A round robin format will be played in both Division A (competitive) and Division B (recreational) players. Glass mugs will be awarded to members of the winning teams in both divisions, and the Division A team’s name will be engraved on the permanent plaque maintained at the Sand Bar. There will be free T-shirts for all players.

Letter To The Editor – EAB Up Close And Personal

To the Editor:
After traveling through central, northern Ohio to visit my father, I can tell you that the EAB, or emerald ash borer beetle, is very real. The amount of damage to the ash tree population was visible from the Rochester area of NY to my destination, Findlay Ohio.  In Findlay, the effect was so acute that literally every ash tree was either dead or dying.

The Battle Of Bennington Remembered

On Tuesday evening, August 16, a small group gathered at the top of the Bennington Battlefield in Walloomsac to commemorate the 234th anniversary of that revolutionary war battle fought so many years ago on those very grounds. After days of rain, the sky was clear, and the site was sunny, with deep shadows as the sun moved toward setting.

WCW Is Moving To Vermont

WCW Chairman John Wilkinson confirmed this week that the mattress manufacturing company will be moving to Manchester, VT. He expects the Mechanic Street portion of the business to leave as quickly as possible, while the transfer from the Route 22 buildings will be more leisurely. He said the entire move should be completed within the next three months.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – Animal Lodging Facility Approved

At its regular meeting on Monday, August 15, the Hoosick Planning Board read the Zoning Board of Appeals review of the request by Tracy Muscatello to open an Animal Lodging Facility on a 4.7 acre site she is leasing from Verizon. Third Annual Hoosick Punkin’ Chunkin’ Competition

The Third Annual Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza is a little over a month away and teams are already preparing for the exciting Punkin’ Chunkin’ competition. Last year five teams participated and the competition was intense. The crowd loved the spectacle and cheered wildly when the event was won on the final shot. Organizers are hoping the excitement was contagious and even more teams join the fun this year.

Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange had a fun night on Wednesday, August 10. They had a delicious covered dish supper first, than it was game night. They played Bingo with lots of prizes. Ondawa-Cambridge Chapter, DAR, Luncheon Meeting

On Friday, September 2, at noon, the Ondawa-Cambridge Chapter, DAR, will gather for the first time this year at the Cambridge Hotel for a luncheon meeting.  The program will be presented by Barbara Green, Recording Secretary of the Chapter, who will give a report on her attendance at the Continental Congress National Conference held in Washington, D.C. this past June.
