Hubbard Hall Opera Presents A Charming Don Pasquale

The Hubbard Hall Opera Theatre has opened a delightful production of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale. This Bel Canto opera from the mid-19th century is full of gorgeous and memorable music, with a silly plot that comes straight out of the commedia del arte repertoire. A rich old man, fatuous and full of himself, presumes to dictate to his nephew whom the youth will marry, but he learns that youth and love are more than a match for a tyrant and his money.

Hoosick Town Board Action – Stunned By White Creek Bridge Delay

When Hoosick Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly couldn’t get a vote to table withdrawing money from the fund balance to put in play the next phase of the White Creek Bridge project, he closed the Monday, August 8, regular Board meeting on the grounds that no new items could be added to the agenda. WCW Will Leave Hoosick Falls

On Wednesday, August 10, John C. Wilkinson of WCW, Inc. in Hoosick Falls made good on his statement to this reporter last week and released a statement that announced the future move of his company. It will move to either Manchester, VT, or North Adams, MA.

Historic Boards At HFHC

The Battle of Bennington: A Turning Point Remembered

After the loss of Fort Ticonderoga to the British in 1777, British forces continued to pursue retreating American forces.  The British caught up with the Americans in the vicinity of Hubbardton, VT, and The Battle of Hubbardton was fought on July 7, 1777.  The result was a disaster for the Americans who suffered considerable loses, not only in terms of men and materiel but in area control as well.

Marion Lohnes

Hoosick – Marion (Webster) Lohnes, 100, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. She had resided on the Hill Road in Hoosick, NY, and was the wife of the late Harold G. Lohnes; they were married for nearly seventy-two years.

WCW’s Hoosick Falls Buildings In Foreclosure

According to Rensselaer County Attorney Stephen A. Pechenik, J.W. Realty, owners of the WCW properties at 1 Mechanic Street in Hoosick Falls, owe the County $1.4 million in back taxes; $320,000 of that amount is late penalties and interest. J.W. Realty has not paid any taxes on the Mechanic Street properties since WCW, owned by the Wilkinson family, moved into the buildings in 2007. Hoosick Town Hall Feasibility Study Presented

At the Hoosick Town Board workshop on Monday, August 2, engineer Bill Cottrell of Cottrell Associates presented the Board with a feasibility study of three properties under consideration for the future Town Hall. The three are the Armory, Patire’s on Church and Main streets and Weeb’s Fish Fry, the former Harrison Vending, on Main Street.
