Coach Baker Fund Sports Weekend

Participants from near and far came out to show their support for the 2011 Coach Ken Baker Fund Sports Weekend. The weekend consisted of youth, teen and adult 3 on 3 basketball tournaments on Friday, June 18, and Saturday, June 19, and an open format golf scramble held at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on June 19.  Through the generosity of area business, individuals, organizations and friends, the committee is happy to announce that this was the most successful year yet for these events!

First Annual Hoosick Hometown Days

For three days, the residents of the Town of Hoosick and the surrounding communities will have the opportunity to come together to celebrate the end of summer and all that our area has to offer.  Hoosick Hometown Days will be held August 25 – 27 at the Town of Hoosick Athletic Fields from 5 to 10 pm on Thursday and Friday and from noon to 10 pm on Saturday.

Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange met on July 27, with Master David Cornell. After the business meeting we had the Lecturer’s program. Betty Kipp was in charge of the program. Betty started out with a poem titled “Good Morning God.” She had two jokes and another poem by Helen Steiner Rice. She asked us if we remembered the autograph book we would get people to sign back when we were kids. They would write poems or some silly thing. [Read more…] about Hoosick Grange News

Ed Carknard Golf Scramble Approaching Fast

The 6th Annual EC Golf Scramble will be held Saturday, August 13, at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. This event is a benefit to support youth participation in sports activities in the Town of Hoosick.  To date the fund has supported multiple children in the community who need financial assistance while allowing the support to remain anonymous. All that is required to start the process is a phone call or letter to a member of the Carknard family with a brief description of what is needed.

Tuesday Women’s Bowling League Meeting

There will be a meeting on Tuesday, August 9, at 6:30 pm at the Barbecue Recreation pavilion for the Tuesday Night Women’s Bowling League. All team captains are encouraged to attend. At least one person from each team must be represented to cast any votes that might be taken.

Kiwanis Gas Raffle For Irick And Larson

The Hoosick Falls Kiwanis is raffling off $250 in gas cards for $1 a ticket or 6 tickets for $5. The proceeds of this gas raffle will be split between Julie Irick who has been stricken by illness and James Larson who has had an accident. The drawing is October 1. Anyone wishing to purchase a raffle ticket should contact Denim & Deeds Real Estate at 518-686-4426 or any Kiwanis member.

Community Fund-Raiser For Julie Irick

Please help Julie get back on her feet. Due to a sudden illness Julie was left with double vision. Julie is now unable to drive and has numerous doctor bills. She was hospitalized at Albany Med. for six days, sent home without a definite diagnosis and does not have one to date. Julie has a lesion on her brain that has left her paralyzed on the left side of her face. She was told they are almost certain it is MS. The lesion Julie has that makes the doctors believe it is MS or a stroke is on the 7th cranial nerve also causing Bell’s palsy. If that was not enough she was told she has an aneurysm.
