Boy Scout Troop 65 Chili Sale To Benefit Cystic Fibrosis

Once again scouts from Troop 65 will be selling their homemade chili in front of the Grand Union from 10 am  to 2 pm on Sunday, February 6. Treat yourself to a fresh bowl of chili complete with cornbread and the fixin’s for only $7. All proceeds are donated to the Northeastern NY  Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange met on January 26. It wasn’t a bad night, but attendance was lower. The January 12 meeting was cancelled because of bad weather. It’s amazing that the Grange was started in January in 1908, when they came with horse and wagons.  The Master, David Cornell, called on Martha Babbitt to report on the conference that she attended. John O. Backes

Pittstown – John (Jack) O. Backes, 73, of Pittstown, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26, 2011.
Jack is pre-deceased by his parents, Lois and Frederick W. Backes II, and his brother, James.  He is survived by his sons, Frederick W. Backes III and wife Kelly and William J. Backes and wife Tracie. Jack is also survived by his lovely granddaughters, Kaitlin, Ailish, Meghan, Jenna and Victoria.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 70 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, on Saturday, February 5, at 10 am.

Wednesday Morning Fire In Hoosick

The Hoosick Fire Department responded to an alarm at the Jacques family home on Baertschi Road off Babcock Lake Road at 4:23 am Wednesday, January 26. Seven fire departments responded to the blaze. They were Hoosick, Pittstown, Hoosick Falls, West Hoosick, North Hoosick, Grafton and Raymertown. “It’s a one lane road with no place to turn the trucks around,” said Hoosick Fire Chief Bill Rifenburgh. “We had to run 1,500 feet of five inch hose.” Once the system was set up and they got started, they had good water pressure, Rifenburgh said.

Bowl For Hoosick Kids Held At Barbecue Recreation

The Seventh Annual Bowl for Hoosick Kids event was held Saturday, January 15, at Barbecue Recreation on Route 22 in Hoosick Falls. Two waves of teams participated in the event, bringing in over $3,000 in pledges. Proceeds support programs for youth and families provided by the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3).
