Hoosick Town Board Action – Local Law Passes, Another Set For Next Month

During the regular monthly meeting of the Hoosick Town Board on Tuesday, June 15, and after closing the Public Hearing, the Board approved Local Law #1 for 2010. The new law changes the length of time the Zoning Board of Appeals has to transmit a copy of a special permit application to the Planning Board from 30 days to 12 days. If the Planning Board does not submit an advisory opinion, “It shall be interpreted as a recommendation that the special permit be granted.” The law shall take effect immediately after filing with the Secretary of State. The Town Board had consulted with the Planning and Zoning Boards before implementing this change.

Hoosick Grange Honors Phil Leonard
On June 9 it was Grange Community Citizen Award Night for Mr. Philip Leonard. The Master, David Cornell, welcomed everyone. There was an opening prayer and song. The Flag was presented, and the “Star Spangled Banner” was sung. The literary program was presented. The Lecturer read a history of Philip Leonard. Meet And Greet The Emergency Responders
The Town of Hoosick Fire Chief’s Association is sponsoring a meet and greet night for the entire public to come and greet all of the emergency responders for the Town of Hoosick area. This event will be held on Thursday, June 24, at 6:30 pm on the Town of Hoosick athletic field on Griffin Avenue in Hoosick Falls.

Big Band Concert June 30
The summer concert season will begin a week early this year with a special presentation on June 30 by the Hoosick Falls Big Band, the Stardusters. Show time is 7:30 pm, and the program will last, as all band concerts do, until 9 pm. The program will consist of big band style music from all eras and will feature local vocal soloists also.

Final NHFD Kids Dance Of The Season
The North Hoosick Fire Department will hold its final Kids Dance of the 2009-2010 school year on Friday, June 18, from 7 to 10:30 pm at the firehouse on Rt. 22. Students in grades four through eight who attend Hoosick Falls Central, Cambridge Central or St. Mary’s Academy are invited to finish out the school year. This dance will complete our 12th year of providing kids dances to the community.
The summer pool dance at the Town of Hoosick Community Pool will be on Friday, July 9. Tickets may be purchased by attending this final dance.
Hoosic River Watershed Assn. Summer Excursions
June 27: Rick Dovey will lead a bike ride from Pownal, VT, to Buskirk. The group will meet at the Pownal Post Office (Rte. 346 just west of Rte. 7) at 10 am for a leisurely 40-mile ride through the Hoosic Valley to the Buskirk covered bridge and back. A recent press release from NYS Police officer Maureen Tuffy stated “While police may never know why Mr. Martinez crossed over into the westbound lane of traffic, leading to the head-on collision with a tractor-trailer, driver fatigue may have been a factor.” The fatal accident occurred around 5 am Sunday morning on Route 7 in Pittstown. Helen Hemendinger Honored With PTA Founders’ Day Award

Each year in observance of Founders’ Day, PTAs across the country pay tribute to their founders and past PTA leaders by recognizing someone who carries on the tradition of making an outstanding contribution to the well being of children and youth. This year the Hoosick Falls Central School PTA honored retiring AIS math teacher Helen Hemendinger, who exemplifies the tradition of those founders.
