Columbia County Fair Cooking Contest Heats Up
With the Columbia County Fair just around the corner, area cooks should start opening their recipe card files, pulling out their cookbooks and searching the internet for “Best of” dishes. The 5th Annual Morton A. Ginsberg Memorial Cooking Contest is about to begin.
On Monday, September 5, at 12:30 pm, anyone interested can bring their star quality dish, fully cooked, to the North Gate of the Fair and enter in the competition for cash prizes ranging from $100 to $300 in the Youth division and $200 to $500 among adult participants.

Tsatsawassa Pig Roast
On Saturday, August 20, the Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company Inc. will hold its 23rd Annual Pig Roast on the Fire House grounds located just off Route 20 in the hamlet of Brainard. Doors will open at 1 pm, and the afternoon will be filled with fun events including door prizes and games as well as hot dogs, sausage, hamburgers and drinks. All the while the whole pig covered with foil, will be roasting on the spit in view of the attendees.

Mount Lebanon Shaker Village Open For Tours Through Labor Day – Shakers’ Meetinghouse Special Tour August 6
Mount Lebanon Shaker Village is open to the public for tours through Labor Day, September 5. Village hours are 11 am to 4 pm Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Free guided tours will be offered at 11:30 and 2:30 each day and will leave from the North Family Granary. Visitors will learn the history of the Shakers at Mount Lebanon and what the Museum is doing to restore the North Family.

Community Drum Circle
Musician and educator Allen Livermore leads a Community Drum Circle on Monday, August 8, at 6:30 pm at the New Lebanon Library. The free program, which offers participants the opportunity to play as part of drum circle, improvise and have fun, is open to all ages and all levels of prior experience. Participants can bring their own drums, shakers, cowbells and other percussion instruments or borrow ours.
