Crawly Critters
Rhonda Leavitt of Rhonda’s Reptiles will present animal education using live reptiles on Tuesday, August 2, at 1 pm at the New Lebanon Library. Leavitt’s reptiles include an iguana, bearded dragon, boa constrictor, Burmese python and American alligator. The program is oriented towards children, although people of all ages are welcome.

Mount Lebanon Shaker Village Tours

The Shaker Museum And Library will open its North Family site at Mount Lebanon Shaker Village in New Lebanon to the public this summer season. Village hours are 11 am to 4pm Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays from July 2 through September 5. Free guided tours will be offered at 11:30 am and 2:30 pm each day and leave from the North Family Granary. Visitors will learn the history of the Shakers at Mount Lebanon and what the Museum is doing to restore the North Family.

LVHS Receives Grant

The Lebanon Valley Historical Society is pleased to announce that the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation has awarded the Society $852 from The Fund for Columbia County. The award is for the entire requested amount, which is one-half of the cost of acquisition of collection management database software.

Kinderhook Lake Chicken Barbecue Fund-Raiser

The Kinderhook Lake Corporation will host a Brook’s Chicken Barbecue on Saturday, August 27, from 4:30 to 7 pm at the Niverville Fire House, 888 County Road 28 (Main St.) in Niverville.  Dinner will be eat-in or take-out.  The cost is $12 for half a chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, roll, chocolate chip cookie and soda.  You may purchase dinners at the door, or reserve dinners or obtain information by calling KLC at 518-784-2050. Proceeds are to benefit our Water Quality Fund and other costs of maintaining the Lake.  Please help us to keep our lake clean and inviting for fun and recreation.

New Lebanon Class Of 1961 Featured At Alumni Dinner

For the sixth year in a row the Alumni Dinner, catered by the Hitchin’ Post Michael DeBella (corrected 7/29/11) this year, was paid for by the generous Mr. Richard Burns, Class of ’49, who resides in Shelton, CT. Burns’ goal was to increase the turnout for the annual reunion to at least 200. This year, with 230 alumni attending, he more than achieved his goal.

New Lebanon Youth Basketball Camp

New Lebanon To Litigate Landfill Closing

The night was sultry. A bored looking well tanned Sheriff’s Deputy sat in the corner. Now and then a lanky young man with a crooked smile wearing a muscle T-shirt and handcuffs was herded in and out of the room to a Judge’s chambers in the back by a red-faced State Trooper. Was there going to be trouble? “No, no; no trouble,” said the Deputy. This distraction at Monday’s New Lebanon Town Board meeting was caused by the simple fact that New Lebanon, without a Town Hall of its own, shares its meeting room in the American Legion building with the Town Court.

Shaker Yankees/Red Sox Dream Package Raffle

The Shaker Museum and Library is raffling off a spectacular Yankees/Red Sox dream baseball package. The package includes four front row seats at Yankee Stadium in Champion’s Suite, Section 12 on September 23. Game time is 7 pm.
