Calling All Knitters

If you like to knit or would like to learn,  please join the knitters at Sit ‘n Knit the first and third Saturday of each month at the Everett Wagar Senior Center, 1 Roxborough Road, next to the Grafton Post office from 9 to 11 am, weather permitting.
Beginners, advanced and drop-in adult knitters are welcome to these relaxed and informal meetings. This is an opportunity to knit your own project at your own pace and visit and meet with other local knitters. Members share patterns, knowledge and ideas. There is no cost to attend the gatherings.

Lillis J. Bunce

Grafton – Lillis J. Bunce died Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Crofton Care and Rehabilitation Center in Crofton, MD, at the age of 90. Born Lillis Adele Jackson on August 5, 1920, in Greene, NY, she was the daughter of Harold Wallace Jackson and Theo Preston Jackson. She graduated from Auburn East High School, Auburn, NY, in 1938 and from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, in 1942 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. She worked in a hospital laboratory in East Orange, NJ, until her marriage to Stanley Chalmers Bunce in 1944.

Born in Flint, MI, on August 8, 1937, he was the only child of George Edwin and Mary Delight Dwyer. His family later moved to Kansas City, MO, where he attended Southwest High School.

Liesel Nussbaum Gottschalk

Hoosick Falls – Liesel Nussbaum Gottschalk, age 90, of Niskayuna, NY, succumbed to cancer on Friday, November 5, 2010.
Born in Germany during November 1919, Liesel Gottschalk grew up living above the retail fabric and clothing store owned and operated by her parents in Neustadt, Germany. In 1938, Liesel fled alone to Manchester, England, to live with relatives and escape from the Nazis until she was allowed to immigrate to the US in 1940.

County Approves Takeover Of Village Dispatch

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, November 9, the County Legislature passed unanimously a resolution  authorizing the County Executive to execute a public safety dispatching agreement with the Village of Hoosick Falls. At a September 20 meeting the Village of Hoosick Falls decided, in a 4-3 vote after much discussion and a series of public hearings, to join the County Dispatch system and to deactivate its own dispatch system. At present the emergency service calls, for fire and ambulance, go through the County 911 Dispatch and are forwarded to the Hoosick Falls center to be dispatched locally while the Police calls are handled solely by the Hoosick Falls Dispatch.

Beacon Power’s frequency regulation plant in Stephentown has been included on a White House list of 100 Recovery Act Projects that are Changing America. Releasing the report, Vice President Joe Biden said, “With [American Reinvestment and] Recovery Act projects like these, we’re starting to turn the page on a decade of failed economic policies and rebuild our economy on a new foundation that creates good middle class jobs for American families, and we’re not engineering this transformation alone – Recovery Act projects are drawing billions in private capital off the sidelines to help recharge our economy.”
